Im a serious gator fan and I really like UF, but I have to go to FSU because UF doesn't have a meteorology major. What can I expect as a person that doesn't like the Noles?

to get over it

Might be wise to leave your UF stuff at home. Really, the university is not a high school, but you would be inviting criticism by wearing your preferences openly.

A person that “does not like the noles” has a few options.

First, you go to FSU, wear gator clothes every day, continue to support UF and the gators, continue to to hate the 'noles, and act like a jerk. You never consider yourself a Seminole, and you can’t wait to get your four years over and done with.

Second, you could get exicited about FSU as a place of higher education, a great place with a GREAT meteorology department. You could continue to follow gator football, but immerse yourself in being a Seminole. Being a Seminole has little to do with being an FSU football fan. For many students, football plays little role in their everyday life. But you will need to understand what being a Seminole is. It starts at the new student convocation. And it never ends, even after graduation. There is being a football fan and BEING A SEMINOLE. You can certainly be a Seminole and still root for UF football.

Third, you go out of state and pay lots of money to avoid being a Seminole.

Fourth, you change your major and go to UF.

Being a student at FSU and rooting for or supporting UF is not acceptable. Period.

^ Meh, I do it unless they’re against FSU, LSU, Alabama, or Texas. Florida still represents Florida for me =/

Ehh, Im ok with being a seminole student… But I’m probably the guy who would drive to UF home games with facepaint, bodypaint, and an orange wig. Outside of football games I dont intend to show UF spirit much. I should be okay right?

NO. Take sunnyflorida’s fourth option and go to UF.

Agreed, no Gator fan belongs in Tallahassee on a daily basis.
A gator fan going to FSU, in fact TRANSFERING from UF is comparable to an athiest working as the Pope’s assistant in the Vatican. Just doesn’t fit.

Stick with your chubby gator girls

I must second the posts of Nolette and Sid. If you go to Florida State, you don’t root for Florida… ever.

Well my opinion may not matter very much, but I’m surprised that the 3 of you are acting like the kind of people at UF who turned me away from the campus… He’s not saying he’ll disrespect FSU or anything, so to me it looks like you’re all being somewhat immature.

I agree with Dnerd. There is no reason why I shouldn’t be allowed to tailgate the gators. I pick option 2.

Given what [Kirk Herbstreit says about the 'Noles](http://www.tomahawknation.com/), I’d think you’d want to join the Tribe in all ways.

Do as you wish MedicallyInsane. I am beginning to understand the reasoning behind your handle now. (I kid of course).

DNerd, I disagree with you completely. It makes ZERO sense to me why one would support an athletic program they have no association with as opposed to the athletic department of the school you attend. One benefits you by improving your school’s image/reputation, bringing publicity to your school, raising money, and bringing about excitement to campus. The other doesn’t benefit you in the slightest.

UF is our rival. You don’t support your rival no matter what, and it has nothing to do with maturity. Do Boston fans ever root for the Yankees? Do Notre Dame fans ever root for USC or vice versa? Hell no. I’m not belittling UF; they are a great university as are we, but you better damn well believe I’m going to have a big smile on my face when they lose in any sport.

Oh please. Not everyone is a sports nut. Most people use game days as mini holidays: an excuse to dress crazy, party with friends, and have fun. As long as you don’t bag on the Noles you’ll be fine. Don’t come in with that “I don’t like the Noles” attitude. I could care less about football but that kind of insult comes off as arrogant and snotty. Wearing Gator colors on game day will get you in trouble too. Just chill out, don’t be insulting, stop making your love for UF football such a big deal, and go with the flow. If you want to drive to UF for football weekends then go for it. UF, FSU, and UCF students swap towns all the time to visit old friends. :)

Matt, straight up… you are stupid. You KNOW you’re just saying that **** because you got turned down from UF and have had a grudge ever sense. What you’re saying makes no sense. I like both FSU and UF equally. So what the **** would you have me do in your situation? Not go to either???

MedicallyInsane, you should become a Seminole fan, as the gators aren’t doing so hot as of late?

JakeLikes2Bake,

You may consider actually reading posts for comprehension before responding to them.

Did I say anything negative about UF as a school? They are a rival of the school I attend, and therefore I root against them. That’s what makes it a RIVALRY! I feel the EXACT same way about UM the students from around Miami who actually root for UM over their own school. I didn’t even apply to UM.

Maybe it’s over my head. I don’t see how one chooses not to favor the school they actually attend. To answer your question, if I liked both equally, I would pick one to attend and support that school unconditionally.

Sometimes, I really have to remind myself that even though this is the FSU forum, it’s still College Confidential. I apologize if my posts come off too strong, but I still disagree with you.

Well I’m a generally open-minded person, but I cannot for the life of me understand your reasoning.

Guys, a true fan of a team doesn’t stop cheering for the team even in down time. How would you feel if seminole fans stopped cheering for them just because they had a bad season?
