Gah situation UCSD......

Hellooooo.......

So I got accepted to UCSD under TAG apparently for Fall 2011.

The conditions are completion of igetc, 3.0 gpa+, and some other stuff.

So my situation is that I just went over my IGETC with a counselor who just informed I won't be done with IGETC by this spring; meaning that UCSD will rescind my admission.

I'm missing one class and I will 99% get rescinded...... I'm really sad since this was the only UC I got into and theyre raising the GPA to 3.5 next year...

Could I possibly try to convince UCSD admissions to be able to take the last course in the summer somehow? anyone ever have any lucky with that or hear of similiar situations?

The thing is that I met with a counselor and we went over my application. The counselor said I was done with IGETC and I just had to take 1 music class in the spring which I currently am. I'm ****ed because I needed to take 2 classes and he told me I only had to take 1. Also why did UCSD accept me if I was missing a class which I never even listed on my application. Is that a mistake on their part? or do they just see if you have UCSD TAG checked and automatically accept you? meaning do they even verify your IGETC during application processing?

Sorry for the long messege but this is very fustrating and depressing... thanks for any help anyone!

no one? :(

call them. convince them to let you take a summer class. yup.

Really? I got accepted but I never promised to finish IGETC by spring. Maybe cuz I am engineering major? I have no TAG. I think if you were accepted under TAG, then there might be a problem. Contact them and ask.

yeah if you have TAG you ned to complete it…

but theyre really gonna reject me off of 1 class and make me wait a whole year just for 1 class!!! its absurd…

I haven’t called yet since I’m at work; I just wanted to get input and see if anybody had similiar experiences…

anyone elseeee ?

bump…!!!

I was in a similar situation last year. I’ll be honest: they won’t budge. They do not make exceptions for TAG, period. You must fulfill each and every requirement listed or they will rescind your admission. I, too, got bad advice from a counselor and had to basically sit out a year because of it.

The IGETC certification is done on your end, not on their end. If you tell them you’ll be IGETC certified, that’s all they’re going off of. Your records department then has to verify that and send it off as part of your transcript.

@Grimes99

So I’m assuming you didn’t get in then?

@UCsystem: Nope, I spent a quarter at UCI, then back to CC, now I’m going to UCSD in the fall.

did you bother to appeal?

Yup. They said no. They’re extremely rigid about TAG, and conditional admissions decisions in general.

@ grimes

I gotcha but I’ve been looking around and I saw this thread (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/710645-transfering-ucsd-without-foreign-language.html</a>)
and if you read post #10 I think I could perhaps argue for the similar reasons?

@UCsystem: That looks like an error on UCSD’s part if they admitted without fall grades being updated. Tough to say without the exact specifics, but if you put on your app that you’d be done with IGETC by spring and now are unable to do that after updating fall grades… well, good luck, but honestly that’s about as bleak as it gets. Call and talk to them, see what they say.
