Gateway Admission TAMU Class of 2026

@Crickett272 , if your son has the option of choosing Fowler, Hughes, or Keathley, I personally think Hughes has a slightly better view. Since these are balcony dorms with big windows, your son might pay more attention to the view. Also, the evening sun can play a role in how comfortable he gets in the room or hanging out on balcony.

Think of the three identical dorms as a letter “F” that’s upside down and rotated a little counter-clockwise. Fowler and Keathley are the parallel buildings and Hughes is the perpendicular one. (It’s more like an “E” if you count Moses Hall, a corridor-style dorm next to them.)

In Hughes, the side facing NE overlooks a nice shady area with huge trees and a wide walking path between the balcony dorms and the modular dorms. It also overlooks the outdoor basketball court near the northern end; this can be a plus (activity) or a minus (noise). Also, this side is away from the evening sun, which will help in the summer. The side facing SW overlooks the boring grassy area that’s surrounded by Fowler and Keathley or Keathley and Moses (depending on which end of Hughes you’re in).

In Fowler, the side facing SE mostly overlooks Jones Street and a boring parking lot and old building (Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Evaluation). The side facing NW overlooks the grassy FHK quad I mentioned earlier.

In Keathley, the side facing SE is that same quad; the side facing NW is the boring grassy quad surrounded by Hughes and Moses (and probably gets a lot of afternoon sun).

So, if your son picks Hughes, there’s a 50-50 chance he’ll get the nicer and cooler NE side, whereas if he picks Fowler and Keathley, the view is just so-so all around.

Hope that helps. Mostly minor things, and he should be fine in either dorm. But if he gets a choice, it’s good to make an informed decision.
