Gateway Apartments

How soon should I send in my app for the new university gateway apartments if I want a studio? Also, is it possible for a freshman to move out of USC housing to like gateway for second sem or something?

Thanks/

A lot of us moved into gateway this semester and the place has been having a lot of issues with maintenance and fulfilling promises they made for those of us who signed leases. There is a facebook group dedicated to it which should be easy to find so I’d advise reading up on it before considering a lease here.

the rooms, common areas, facilities, location, views are beautiful though lol, I want to move in asap haha

gateway sucks. everyone i talked to that lives there hates it and will not be returning the next year.

Yeah, I sure won’t consider returning at this point in time. I mean the place isn’t horrible by any means but they advertised and promised a lot for what you’re paying and pretty much have not delivered at all.

^lol like what did they promise? dont u just pay for like the room?

There is a long list of stuff you can find out about if you read the wall on the facebook groups. Like they promised me there would be bbq grills but there aren’t any or we paid for parking but they’ve allowed anyone to park here for free since everyone moved in(fraud?).

Internet service has been horrible and there’s been issues with the cable tv. We had water leaking out of our AC vent for a while, a friend has no AC in her unit, another unit has a faulty thermostat, lots of maintenance issues…

glad i chose tuscany!

lolz hopefully when im a sophomore next year theyl fix things up the staff there told me their not fully set up yet, im thinking of tuscany too but i havent seen the interiors yet do they offer tours like gateway too?

tuscany provides tours too. you just walk into the leasing office and ask.

nice, I’m definitely planning ahead to get good rooms in either gateway or tuscany next year, unless of course you guys recommend some other upperclassman housing

Well gateway is getting a lot of bad press and tenants are organizing so hopefully they’ll get their **** together here soon.

Are tenants really organizing because I want to get in on that…my experience at Gateway has been ridiculous. The staff is so rude and incompetent and they just moved a random FIDM student into my room. Since when did they start leasing out to random people?

fantastic!: Haha I think I saw you post about that on the main facebook page. I’ll link it to you in a PM.

Webb Tower. Fills up fast when housing assignment begins in February.

Has the situation at Gateway improved at all? Has management been more responsive? My son will be a sophomore and is considering living there next Fall.

^^My S1 (junior) really likes Gateway but I’m not sure he had the same sort of issues mentioned upthread. On the plus side for him: the apartment is new; there are 2 bathrooms for 2 bedrooms, and the appliances, furniture & Tv are included. In addition, utilities, the internet and cable tv are all free. This year Gateway made allowance for students to waiver out of the full 1-year lease if they had 2nd semester for Study Abroad through USC with the proper paperwork filed at the right time. S2 finds the location and amenities very convenient.

To be honest, he may not have the complaints that others have mentioned in part because he didn’t sign a lease at the beginning when rents were so high. He had made other arrangements for this year’s housing, but when those fell through this summer, he discovered Gateway seriously had lowered rents.

Note: He was matched with a guy (other bedroom) who is not a USC student but attends another college (and hopes to transfer to USC). This has been fine with my son as the two get along great.

Hope this info helps.

Many of the issues have been addressed but there is still a list of things they need to address (this varies depending on the person). One thing that is changing is they are raising the monthly rent for each level of the building with the 899/month rate being for the 2nd floor only.

Check out the facebook group for gateway to see a lot of the complaints being made on the wall by current tenants.

That being said, the only comparable buildings are tuscany and a new building opening up on figueroa and 28th called west 27th place apartments.
