Can anyone fill me in on the general education requirements for BU undergrads? I searched “general education requirements” on their website but it didn’t give me anything useful. Could a current BU student or anyone really, tell me?

The requirements depend on the school that you’re in within BU. College of Arts & Sciences has different general ed requirements than the School of Engineering or College of Communication. If you go to the academic section on BU’s website then to the school you want, the information should be right around there.

For College of Arts & Sciences (CAS), you either can do CORE curriculum or divisional requirements to complete gen eds. I personally would recommend divisional, particularly if you’ll be having any AP credits. The majority of CAS students go the divisional route. If you do divisional, you have to take two courses in all the major areas outside of your major. For example, I am double majoring in Econ & Psych which are both social sciences. I had to take two humanities, two natural science (1 lab), and two math/computer science. You can get out of these with certain AP scores though, as I did with my humanities and one math course. They will double up too. So if you have to take a stats course for your major, that will count twice too as one of your math/computer science courses. It isn’t anything too crazy. In addition, you have to take four semesters of a language unless you place into semester 4 or higher on a placement test (if so- you only need to take one semester) or have AP credits (you’d place out all together).

Everyone takes Writing 100 and Writing 150 too.
