***GEORGETOWN 2021 WAITLIST THREAD***

My read on this @HSStudent938 is that Georgetown is aiming for a freshman class of 1600. They anticipate 75 students will withdraw before the fall, so they are buffering that attrition with an additional 75 students. They have admitted 1633 students, so that is 33 over target, and 25 additional have come from the waitlist. So my guess is they plan on taking roughly 15 more students from the extended waitlist, to get to that buffer number.

Any news about the extended waitlist? Has anyone sent in more supplemental material?

I don’t want to be negative, but I really don’t hold out much hope for the EWL, the waitlist on a lot of other schools have closed, which means those people who hoped to get into, say Harvard will now committ to Georgetown. Georgetown according to other information posted here is over enrolled as it is. In past years people by now have gotten off the EWL. That does not seem to have happened. I hope I am wrong.

From a current GU student who got off the EWL last year:
I got the call from an admissions rep last year on June 8. I will always remember that day as one of the best days of my life, but also because it was during graduation rehearsal. They asked me if I was still interested in attending GU if offered a place that day. They also gave me an estimated financial aid package which turned out to be pretty accurate. By 6pm of that day, I had received an email offering me admission (I got the call at noon so it was quite a tumultuous 6 hour wait).

To all of you who are trying to figure out how many spaces are left and how your own chances factor into this, I want you to know that you have already gotten so far already. Being where you are now, you’re probably thinking that what’s being said is all meant well but not as satisfying as getting that acceptance. I know because I’ve been there: Whatever’s being said to comfort you won’t be enough as getting into your dream school, but over time (especially this coming summer), whether or not you get in, you’ll realize that it really doesn’t matter where you go, but rather what you do there.

Ignore what everyone else is saying. Get off CC and imagine yourself at your committed college. Give that new college a real chance to wow you. My almost-college was George Washington; the deposit was sent, the sweatshirt worn everyday, the dorm picked out (Mitchell). Yes, Georgetown was an afterthought during that last month and I still looked at the possibility of being a Hoya as a transfer or future grad student.

Long story short: Enjoy your last few days as a high school senior. Memorize what it feels like to be a high school student because when that last bell rings, everything changes. Whether or not you get your own June 8th, you’re pretty amazing already.

If you have anymore questions about freshmen year or how to prepare, let me know.

@Bostongurl42 thank you for your post! All of the speculation and worry and number crunching offers much less hope than another student’s experience in the same shoes. Of course you’ve open the gate to a FLOOD of questions from those of us waiting on the EWL!!

I am really interested in whether or not you kept communication going with admissions. All advice and suggestions are to continue providing updates … we accepted the WL spot and updated our file with a few items. Now on the EWL there is little to add since April … any thoughts on what might have helped you be one of the few selected off of the EWL? I’ve also read people on this board saying they accepted their spot on the WL & EWL, sent 1 letter of continued interest, and waited. Are we overthinking what we all need to do to stand out at this stage, or did you find real benefit in actively communicating with Georgetown?

@betwixt I was told by some teachers that a letter of continued interest was overkill. To be fair, my LORs were written by those who knew that I REALLY wanted to go to Georgetown. I don’t think it can hurt if you do send one, but I didn’t and it turned out fine for me. I did update my application by sending in information about some scholarships I received during that time but I doubt they made any difference. By the time that I sent in that acceptance to be on the EWL, my hope of getting in was at 10%, which I think is a good mentality to be in especially if everything is so down to the wire like this.

I can top that. My kid was on EWL (two years ago) for the Walsh School and she didn’t hear anything until June 17. On that date, the admission counselor (who had really gotten to know my kid) wrote to say that they had literally just offered the last slot to the school that morning and that my D didn’t make it but they wanted to extend a transfer offer to her. My D was flattered…then went to the other school & never looked back…though we were talking of grad schools this weekend & georgetown will be on the short list…

@BostonGurl42 Thanks for your insight and advice. What school did you get in and did you meet others that were accepted off the EWL once you got to GT? I assume it was a small number? And now that you’ve been at GT one year, was it everything you imagined?

@Gt2017 I’m in the NHS as a Human Science major. I haven’t met anyone else who got off the EWL but some from the WL (a good friend who left Hopkins once he got into Georgetown). The hardest thing I’m trying to figure is how to study for high-content classes. Basically everything I did in HS is not enough; procrastination kills GPAs, which is something I’m still trying to figure out.
I’ve made some really great friends from my floor, including my roommates (I was in a triple), and I’m really excited to see them again in the fall. Coming to Georgetown I knew that I’d get to see lots of great people speak; to name a few: Chris Murphy, Hillary Clinton, and Anna Deavere Smith. I absolutely do not regret it choosing Georgetown.

My D was accepted off EWL yesterday! She was accepted into the college of NHS. She received an email on 5/26 asking is she was still interested -She said yes, and then a call was set up for 5/30 in the afternoon. They asked her again if she was still interested and if she would say yes if given a spot. She said Yes, they then said they would call her back -which they did at the end of the day. She was accepted to GW, BC, NorthEastern, and several other great schools with Scholarship, but this has always been her #1. It is really very difficult to wait this long, but their is still hope. Once we see the letter, we will respectfully remove her name off of BC the college she chose while waiting to hear from GW. Best of luck to all. You WILL be amazing wherever you go!

Has anyone heard anything about Georgetown college, recently. Is their even hope of getting off at this point.

has she received the official acceptance letter off the waitlist yet?? @NYYJETER

She did not receive the official letter in the mail as of today. Still waiting. Reconfirmed with Office of admissions that it will be sent by regular mail. No electronic notifications with letters of acceptance are sent out for Domestic students according to the office.

Wow tumbleweeds on this chain. Do you think it’s over?

@student006 I was just thinking the same thing this morning. We’ve moved on emotionally and GT is becoming a blurred figure in our rearview mirror. Although this may come across as negative, life has a way of navigating your path in the direction that is meant for you - now what we think is best for us. With time - it is becoming clearer - Hope you are doing okay.

Thank you! Actually same here. Very excited about the college she is in. May have been better not to be on the EWL… Would love to know if anyone hears though too.

Hope is not lost. @BostonGurl42 said she came off the EWL June 8th last, year. Another student posted last year they got off the EWL on June 10th, and yet another person last year send end of June. We don’t know how many people were asked to remain on the EWL or how many accepted, but it’s not over this year yet. Hopefully everyone is thrilled with the school that received their deposit, and can relax a bit while waiting …

I got off the extended waitlist for Georgetown College today

My son got into MBS today off the EWL too- Congrats to you @smilingalong

Oh my gosh congrats Gt2017 I know you were really hoping congrats!
