***Georgetown 2022 Applicants Discussion***

@momclassof2018 , I’m not qualified to chance anybody, but my stats are almost identical!
exact same GPA, same ACT score, same # of AP classes, also captain of a sports team. You have slightly better AP test scores while I’ve got a stronger list of EC’s. So it’s pretty disheartening to see that your kid was deferred EA. Arrgh. The stress of waiting continues.

How does Georgetown announce decisions? By email or is there a portal?

@2022AB2102 The Early action notices were via USPS snail mail

Thank you! @momclassof2018

I’ve read in a lot of GT threads that apparently they don’t like overqualified students. Is this true? Maybe I’ll have a chance then, lol

They like overqualified students but you also have to have something compelling…its about contributing to the community in addition to being academically qualified.

are there other georgetown threads on college confidential?

Big concern… I just realized that I did not click the button “[ ] Check here if Secondary and Midyear School Reports will be completed by the same person…” So under my report request, there are two my college counselor’s names and there is a “has not started yet” behind one of two names. My college counselor probably sent the midyear reports to Georgetown via the email or some ways, but not on GU admission website link anyway… Will Georgetown receive my Midyear Report and review my admission? I have not received any emails from Georgetown since Jan 10th, when I finished my supplement and received the confirmation…

Hey everyone. I applied regular and was wondering how they notify applicants as they have no portal. I’m domestic student currently living abroad so I was wondering if anyone knows how they notify international students as well. (I’m guessing mail so like courier service).

Thanks!

@Tennisboy2022 They notify you via mail. (I know, so old school.)

@cxprus so it would take forever for ppl to hear who live outside the us.

@Tennisboy2022 Georgetown does have the portal to check your app status, but not for decisions. International students typically get an email.

@THANzz The same thing happened to me. I checked with my counselor and called Georgetown and I was told that they will contact me after January 10th if something was missing. I did not get an email or a call so I am pretty sure they have everything and that the portal just does not show this.

Thanks!

@Tennisboy2022 --International students get an email. Posters in the 2021 thread state that the decisions were sent by email several days after they were mailed domestically. Apparently, specific time for release of the email was posted on twitter. Looks like decisions were mailed on Friday, and emails posted Monday evening. Just for comparison.

@VAMom23 thx a lot

Also when are the decisions expected to be released this year.

Last year letters were mailed around March 24th. Based on how many days it took to get to Atlanta, should have the letter by March 27 or 28 if they are mailed the previous Saturday, 3/24. Their Easter begins after last class on March 28th so it would not surprise me if they mail them on Monday, March 26th, but only they know for sure!

I second the fact that they like overqualified students. My daughter was accepted EA and recently got a letter from the President where it was mentioned that they were impressed that she was able to balance all of her ECs, course load, and swimming for 3 teams (high school team, winter club, summer club) throughout the year. I think they’re looking for demonstrated stamina to be involved, focused, and still be a great student. I also suspect that they might be looking for people who may have gone to great lengths to challenge themselves. Who really knows, though. It could be many things. The kids have done all they can and that is plenty. My two cents, for what they’re worth.

@candyintheshower Just out of curiosity, what school did your daughter apply to? Was it SFS? Every SFS student I talked to got a personalized letter with the acceptance, so I’m curious as to whether this is an admissions thing or an SFS thing.
