@masquerade98 She applied to the SFS. I really couldn’t tell you if it was an admissions thing or an SFS thing since I don’t know if non-SFS students got a personalized letter as well. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.
I applied to the MSB (admitted during the EA round) and got a personalized letter as well
@candyintheshower Thanks. It sounds like it’s an admissions thing because the transfer students I talked to didn’t get one but most of us did.
@masquerade98 Either way, it’s nice to know what they valued about the applicant, right? It’s a nice touch. If she commits to Georgetown, would it be possible to float you some questions? I’m sure she’d have a few.
@candyintheshower Of course! I would love to answer any questions she might have.
I think what you may be hearing is high-achieving schools trying to strike that balance between securing strong candidates, well-balanced, and also a relative positive matriculation. From what I’ve read, of those accepted to G-Town, only 15% matriculate. There are many reasons for this when you consider applicants of this caliber often having multiple Ivy and near-Ivy acceptances (so they choose elsewhere), a fair share that do not receive the much-needed awards (not necessarily need-based) that other universities may offer, etc. etc. I guess if you admit all those with 5.0 GPA’s, AP, IB courses in droves, ton’s of EC’s, NMF’s, projects including saving the manatee, spotted owl, and rare spotted dolphin…less than 15% would matriculate because those same pool of applicants probably have numerous other “yes’s” from like-ranked schools. Just a hunch. Hey, I could be wrong (but not about saving those animals).
@SgtFriar2015 not sure where you got 15% from… Georgetown’s yield hovers around 50%.

We may have missed the boat on financial aid. My son applied RD. Submitted the CSS Profile and FASFA on time. When I checked the GT website and did the “quiz” it indicated that we would hear from CSS if any documents (tax returns) needed to be provided. My son received an email from CSS last night saying that we missed the 2/1 deadline and documents were late. All the other schools emailed him directly for information. I did check back on CSS and never saw anything. GT was the only school who asked for uploaded docs in CSS, and didn’t provide any other notification/communication. Did we miss something on a portal? I will upload the docs tomorrow too. Does anyone know if this means that if he is accepted (big hurdle we know) that he may not be eligible for aid consideration?
@dehcollege2017 I wrote a wonderful summary and my “15%” was your sole focus? :-(. That number came from a very prominent ivy league college consultant and apparently his intel is incorrect. Well, 47% is certainly much higher…still 53% do not. Any thoughts on why?
@VAMom23 Email/call the financial aid office and clarify the situation so they know what happened. Financial aid packages are released at the same time as RD decisions, if I remember correctly, but I’m sure they’ll be understanding.
Hi, I read on Gtown website that accepted students day is March 23. Does anyone know if that is for EA only, or RD also? If for RD also… letters should be mailed soon…
@ibelld1999 I read on the GAAP Facebook site that is EA weekend. I don’t think RD is going to get letters for a while.
it’s EA only
When should we expect decisions to come?
It’s gonna be the end of the month but it’ll feel like it’s out of the blue
The March accepted students day is for EA. There will be a separate Accepted students day in April.
If you applied to SFS, the Hoya published an article noting that the core graduation requirements are changing beginning Fall 2018. You may want to look at hoya.com for specific info (I don’t know enough about about the program to post accurately)
@VAMom23 The graduation requirements aren’t changing that much. I believe the most significant change is 1 science req (up from none) and 3 econ reqs (down from 4). Some other changes include allowing more 1-credit courses to count for graduation, but overall it’s pretty similar to what we have now.
Yesterday, I got an email from an admissions officer from Georgetown saying that I had some missing information from the very first part of the Georgetown application (the part of the application that was filled out before receiving the Georgetown supplement). The information dealt with where I lived, and info for my parents, not anything that would seem to be assessed as part of the admissions process, but I’m a little confused (and concerned) as to why I was notified so late in the game…Anyone have ideas?
When do we think letters will be coming? I know for EA it was exactly on the date they said it would be, but April 1 is a Sunday this year. Do we think they we should expect them before or after April 1??
Does anyone know how much the deposit is to secure your position at Georgetown should you get in?
