I’ve heard that people were rejected this year for EA? Does anyone know if this is true?
I heard people were rejected this year for EA as well.
@ihateib50 @Katy2023 As I previously explained, Georgetown does not reject anyone during the EA round.
From Georgetown Admissions Website:
is there a facebook group for admitted students…?(:
owiehrof congrats!! what school did you get into?
Anyone who is still waiting for the mail? I’m in Pennsylvania and haven’t get letter yet?
does anyone know if georgetown sends a follow-up package for admitted students? or is it just the letter
@gatoradeb0ttl3 , since Georgetown requires all tests taken to be reported, then yes, I really think you should retake them and send them in, and you have to send your other scores too. Also, the Dean at our info session said that they are strongly recommended, huge emphasis on strongly. So taking them and not sending them in will not be in your favor! Good luck.
Did anyone else get a handwritten happy holidays card from the admission office in the mail? So kind of them to do that!
@mdawg I did not. Did you receive it today? I live in NY.
My son received his acceptance letter for class of 2023 last week. For those of you who are on the fence about your stats, I’ll share his. He was accepted into Georgetown College - physics. He’s interested in the dual degree 3+2 Engineering program with Columbia. Physics for 3 years at G-Town and Engineering for 2 years at Columbia. Come out with bachelors from G-town and bachelors from Columbia. (wow)
He submitted all ACT scores - 3 of them at 31 and the last at 33. PSAT 1460. SAT 1400 (Yikes) and then 1490. Had no idea he had to submit all scores. (scary) Did not take SAT subject tests - we didn’t even know about them until mid-October. Parochial school k - 12. He is a Nat’l Merit Semi-Finalist, KS State Scholar, School Presidential Honor Roll (every semester), Presidential Freshman Scholarship (high school). GPA 4.0 / 4.67. Has had a very rigorous course load since freshman year which probably helped. Leadership: Boys State and summer FBI Leadership Academy (very selective - 30 students in state). Community service hours (too many to count) since 4th grade - parochial school requirement. Did not see his rec letters but his counselor, head of math department and history teacher all know him well. Feel they were strong. He felt his alumni interview went well. Activities: 9-10 basketball and football. Track 9-12 (varsity 11-12). School rec basketball 11-12. Work: grades 10-12, landscape and lawn service - summer full time and 5-10 hrs/week school year. His job is unconventional for our area and his school - most work for their parents or parent’s friends. I think this is a bonus - he’s a hard worker and proud of what he does.
I read his essays and was really blown away. Very creative, honest and more conversational in style. Two had dry humor which was great and interesting. He did write one about his desire to continue his catholic education for a variety of reasons and it was genuine. I realize for most that is of no consequence (which is perfectly understandable) but he was looking at catholic colleges. G-town being the number one pick! He likes that there is such diversity in the G-town students - demographics, interests, beliefs etc. DC is a huge bonus - he has been a few times and loves it.
Basically, he almost didn’t apply because he felt it was too much of a reach and because he did not take SAT subject tests. We thought he would get deferred because of this. Not recommending doing this but he did. If you want it - apply. You have nothing to lose. Don’t regret not trying. Best of luck to all. He is over the shock and can’t wait to become a HOYA.
@KSmom48 your son sounds amazing and it sounds like Georgetown was able to see that through his application.
I think his acceptance is proof that scores do not define the candidate (not that they were that low really…maybe the same as some other kids would have gotten if they didn’t have a tutor or even if they did have a tutor!).
Georgetown is very selective but it’s definitely not only as it relates to scores. Their score range is a little lower than some schools that are slightly easier to get in in my opinion and the case of your son is proof.
Their unique application requirements really help them determine who is the right fit for Georgetown and your son clearly fit what they were looking for. He sounds incredible to me.
Good luck to him! He will love it and love DC. My daughter thinks it’s the greatest college/place on the planet. It has exceeded our already high expectations in every way. And congrats to you too for having raised such an amazing human! And thanks for sharing his story.
Did you hear from UMich? Its a great school a top rated university
Thanks for posting this. Does anyone know what the historic yield rate is for those accepted in the early action round?
Our daughter was deferred. She has applied to the Faculty of Languages & Linguistics within Georgetown College. FLL has specific essay questions, plus one teacher recommendation is required from a foreign language teacher. I’m wondering what the EA acceptance numbers are for FLL? She wants to major in linguistics and minor in French. Georgetown is her top choice!
Hey y’all. So on my application portal it says that I haven’t done my application supplement, but I did do it (and turn it in). I can view my essay under “rpoof of application” in PDF form though. Should I call and try to have this fixed?
*proof
@wachrapconcarne - if you just submitted then it’ll probably take a couple days to record the upload properly.
My son will be the last Hopeful Hoya to turn in his RD app LOL. Crossing fingers for Tues. I suppose I should call and make sure they have all his test scores as I’m not sure what we’ll be able to see before the deadline rolls by . . .
@JBStillFlying if at all possible, I would suggest your son call and not you. It probably makes no difference either way, but you never know. I think they prefer when the students contact them directly. Just my opinion. But if he gets home late from sports or after school activities, then you will have to do it obviously.
@collegemomjam - Good advice. This is a simple “are his scores there” sort of question. He’s not worried because they were sent in Nov. I AM worried because box.com has already glitched on his performing arts supplement so it’s possible more glitches (with little time to fix) will happen. Well, it’s up to him. I should probably just relax.
Or is this an easy question to answer? He has received verification that teacher and counselor recs are logged. Scores don’t show any indication of being logged. Is there a way to check on his application portal (still in process) to know whether they have arrived?
