Georgetown Class of 2017 EA/RD Discussion Thread

Well this blew our theory out of the water. :(

From Northern Virginia and nothing from Georgetown today.

Food for thought: I tried some Maryland counties on the postage calculator, and it still predicted a Monday arrival. It is of course possible that it has been delayed by Hurricane Sandy, but it’s also possible that the timing of when it is mailed out doesn’t work for a Saturday arrival. Apparently traditional mail just takes longer to be processed and shipped, even if you’re close.

Edit for explanation: I tried them yesterday.

I’m guessing many of us will hear by Monday. And even if they were delayed due to Sandy, they would still need to mail letters out in time for the farthest students to hear by the 15th.

Does anyone know if the letter will come in a regular sized envelope or a letter size one? My mailman wanted to know when I frantically stopped him today.

Someone posted earlier in the thread that it was just a letter size envelope, acceptances with three pages tri-folded.

God bless you guys !

regular sized envelope

I still think the theory was a good one, but Sandy probably made it tough on them and they’re scrambling a bit. I can’t wait for someone to post some news! Good luck, all.

In short: I HATE PHYSICAL MAIL WHY CAN’T THEY JUST EMAIL

But really… wouldn’t it save a ton of paper, money, and time to just email us when decisions are ready? I know it’s traditional and all, but man is it stressful.

Exaaaactly. I can see it changing to email notification in the next year or so, kind of like how just this year they accepted electronic submission of teacher recs. It’s not like peer institutions don’t do it

Haha oh well. I guess we’ll just have to wait for the mailman next week!

Ugh that was annoying. The day my counselor mailed all my junk she got an email saying, “We now accept stuff through Naviance!”

Why can’t they just make it easy for us? WHY? I was so annoyed they didn’t accept the Common App like practically every other school on the planet, and now they make us wait by the mailbox… I mean seriously. It would be easier on everyone to send an email.

I did get a Christmas card from the White House today. No postmark, though, so I don’t know when it was mailed. My friend got hers yesterday, though. That worries me. Does mail from DC take an extra long time to get to my house for some reason? Or is the post office so completely arbitrary that two people in the same city can get mail from the same place on different days?

I really think I’m losing my mind.

I would guess that it was mailed awhile ago, based on the predictions the postal calculator comes up with. And USPS generally has multiple facilities in cities of any size, so that’s probably where that issue comes from.

CANT WAIT UNTIL MONDAY. Crossing my fingers for everyone

still waiting for it…guess i have to wait to get news this saturday since i leave for school later today (in another city)

sighs.

Actually, Dartmouth notified their ED applicants on their website on Thursday (12/6).
