Georgetown Fall 2018 Transfer

I’m scared. I applied to the political economy major, which is art of the economics department, so I guess most of us econ applicants who haven’t heard back are doomed.

Where are my sociology majors at? Still waiting to hear back, gettin nervous!!

So I did some digging on last year’s thread. Political econ heard at a different time than regular econ. For regular econ there were two days of acceptances and then if you didn’t hear you didn’t get in. My guess is if we don’t hear by Tuesday (Econ majors) then waitlisted is best we can hope for.

@lyaungyaung would you mind posting stats?

@“buddy1!” You just made me feel a little bettter.

For the others who got accepted, did any of you receive financial aid information? I’m guessing they’ll just send that separately bc they didn’t say anything about it in my letter

Hi all! This is my first time posting on College Confidential, but I have been lurking for a while lol. I am waiting to hear from the School of Nursing and Health Studies. Has anyone gotten a decision yet for this one?

Anyone for Justice and Peace Studies?

Forgot to post.
Got accepted on Weds, Mathematics major.

@scottzyh hey congratulations, I am a similar major as you. Would you mind pming your stats! I’d really appreciate it. thanks

@parisgeller I also did not receive any financial aid information! But if you check the CSS page, it says they will release information May 1-4. We will mostly likely receive an email from Financial Aid Services next week.

These are my stats for SFS. I have not been accepted yet:

Age: 26
GPA 3.7
Northern Virginia CC
Brazilian and Colombian-American
Roman Catholic
Speak English and Spanish
Father was USAID; Foreign Service brat
Lived in Senegal, Ethiopia, and Italy
Traveled to 30 countries
Veteran of the Marine Corps as an infantryman and secondary official job as Foreign Security Force Advisor.
Two deployments to Afghanistan and Eastern Europe, first attached as security element to an advisor team, and then to Romania as a Foreign Advisor leader in international security cooperation. Assisted with Ebola outbreak in Liberia. I was also meritoriously promoted to a leadership rank.
Hiked 300 miles of the Appalachian Trail as a fundraiser to Fisher House
Volunteer with Team Rubicon, a veteran non-profit humanitarian aid organization with “deployments” to Houston and north Austin in 2015.
Outdoor Instructor with REI and LL Bean. Have taught a range of classes to my community from survival skills, overseas travelling, backpacking, winter backpacking, knot-tying, and so forth.
Work part-time in said capacity.
Stellar recommendation from honors professor who said I was in the top one percent of students he has ever taught at NOVA CC.
High-school newspaper editor and creative writing award.
Phi Theta Kappa NHS
Interviewer said I was a natural fit for SFS given my Type A personality and background. I would say the interview went extremely well.
I wrote two exceptional essays, one of which was about learning Sanjuanero from my mother and the second was about living in Rome, Italy and being baptized at the Vatican being integral to my formative years. Writing is one of my strongest qualities, so I’m not concerned at the least about the quality.

My weakness is my high school GPA, but I did also graduate eight years ago. To be honest, I’m not overly optimistic about acceptance, even though I put m. I’m putting my eggs into GWU. I’ve been accepted into W&M already.

Last year it seems that mcdonough started to release decisions on may 2nd… so hopefully we hear monday-wednesday, business majors!

The wait is killing me! Hopefully everyone hears good things soon!!

Chance me!

Hello, I am a sophomore and I applied to GTown for transfer in Fall 2018 as a Government major. I have a weird story, I applied to a bunch of schools for transfer last year (including GTown), but only got into Cornell which was my last choice. I ended up transferring to Cornell, but I really disliked it because I was not a huge fan of Ithaca and I did not like the culture. I decided I wanted to try to transfer again.

College GPA: 4.12 Cornell GPA with 4.07 midterm GPA. 3.96 freshman GPA at Top 100 school I transferred from

SAT I: 2250 superscore (740 CR, 740 Math, 770 Writing)
SAT II: 650 Lit, 760 World History, 740 US History
Unweighted High School GPA (out of 4.0): 3.4 or 3.5 unweighted, 4.0 weighted
HS Rank: unknown, prob close to top 10%

AP:

  1. US (5)
  2. English Lang (5)
  3. World (4)
  4. Microeconomics (4)
  5. Macroeconomics (5)
  6. Gov (5)

HS awards were AP Scholar with Honor (2015), AP Scholar with Distinction (2016), National Merit Commended Student, and a bunch of awards from my HS for getting the highest grades in a special gifted and talented class, as well as in AP Gov.

College extracurriculars: Editor of a history journal. Writer for college international relations magazine as only freshman on staff (sent an article as supplemental material), College Democrats. Published article in political science journal (sent it as supplemental materials).

Job/Work Experience: Part time intern at a political organization in DC, Worked on a congressional campaign as a staffer for a year 2015-2016 (candidate wrote me a letter), worked three internships in the spring semester 2017.

Two recommendations from teachers who all like me very much, and another fantastic letter from a boss of mine.

State (if domestic applicant): NJ
HS Type: Medium public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: $250,000+
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None

You’re at an Ivy League with a 4.0+ and asking people to chance you for transfer? You’re either not reading the rest of the threads or being incredibly ostentatious.

@dcstorm97 I’m sorry, was not trying to be ostentatious. If I were a freshman at Cornell with a good GPA, I would have thought I was in good shape. But I am asking because I would become a double transfer junior, and colleges don’t typically like juniors + I have already transferred before so I thought schools would look down on that.

@TransferKid2020 me!! I’ll post on here if I hear anything, but so far, nothing yet!

@hdaviirus You have great stats. I don’t think you have anything to worry about. If it were my essay I would have mentioned why I was transferring twice in two years.

I did, I made it a focal point. You are a lot more confident than I am. I also applied to GTown out of HS and I was rejected, last year I was wait-listed and then rejected, hoping this year I can finally get over the finish line.
