Georgetown Transfer Thread

@esthetique what profession was your interviewer? Mine is a math professor so I hope I don’t some weird questions and ****.

get some weird questions and stuff

He was the head of the IT office or something like that. So yeah, his profession didn’t relate to the type of questions. He asked the general questions and then the current events questions. It wasn’t a complete surprise. I liked my interviewer from last year better though. xP

I also applied last year. Turns out I’ll have my interview on the same exact day as I had it then. Fortunately, this is with a new person and at a new location, so, hopefully, something new will happen this May/June, too.

I had my interview today. Went really well I thought. He didn’t ask me anything about politics or current events. Basically he asked me more of why I want to transfer and we talked about that the entire time.

My interviewer and I chatted a bit to set up a date and she still hasn’t given me any times for the actual interview! You guys seem to have all done yours already… what gives!

Haha Alyssa we are going back and forth to and from the cornell thread

I know we’re just stalking both haha. Hopefully we actually end up at one of em.

alyssa you should tell her what times you’re available and ask her if she can meet at any of those times. my interviewer seemed like he was in a rush  he only asked about my stats and what i did in HIGH SCHOOL instead of what i did in college :open_mouth: ><

Just had my interview at a local Starbucks this morning. It went very well! Have a great conversation with my interviewer who introduced a lot about Georgetown to me.

Since we’re interview crazy right now, mine was over last weekend. Went well. It was ironic, because a close friend of the woman who interviewed me is actually a professor at my community college. Funny coincidence there.

Otherwise, we just talked about the school in general and my background.

To those who haven’t had the interview yet (and I probably should have posted this earlier), you might want to brush up on G’town a bit and what areas you are interested in becoming involved in. My interviewer seemed pretty impressed (or at least, that’s what I think) that I knew a fair deal about the school and the clubs/activities I wanted to get involved in.

Otherwise, just be yourself.

@mankaneneestam thanks for the fill-in! did your interviewer throw any curve ball q’s like @esthetique’s seemed to? I know Georgetown, regardless of a student’s major, tends to be a highly political environment so I’m trying to prepare for those sort of possible questions as well.

@esthetique- that’s not cool haha, I want to talk about college and the future, not look back on those hazy high school years. Where did you have your interview?

i had my interview at a georgetown university building because he works for their IT department. yeah my interview was kinda unfortunate  oh wells…
and yes i kinda figured he’d ask some political questions since we are in DC after all. but i also kinda thought (and hoped) that he wouldn’t because my senior year’s interview was nothing like that. my advice is just keep up with the major current events and really give specific reasons on why you want to transfer to gtown.

Do all transfers get interviews?

I think it depends on the interviews’ availability, but it seems like most people get one.

All transfers are supposed to do interviews, unless there is no available interviewer for that geographic area.

Personally, I was supposed to do an interview, but when I contacted the alum for my area he told me that he was on vacation and wouldn’t be able to do it. Then I got an email from the admissions office telling me that I could just waive the interview, and I chose to do so.

@Greg haha your’e on the Cornell thread too. Good luck to you. This month is going to go by so slowly.

actually, i thought only first years have to do interviews and transfers don’t have to. that’s why i was kinda surprised that they emailed us about interviews.

From my understanding it says Transfer interviews are a mandatory part of the app process but that they “rarely make or break” a student’s chances of being accepted. So don’t shoot yourself down so quickly @esthetique haha

If your stats are opinionatedly less-than-stellar (at least with me), then the interview is a good place to show the type of person that you are beyond what is on the application.

And besides, I am sure that Georgetown wants people that are more than a good GPA and extracurriculars.

But again, not anything to break yourself over.
