Georgetown Transfer Thread

“All first-year applicants, including international applicants, are required to have an interview with an alumnus as part of the admissions process unless it is geographically impossible. Interviews for transfer students are optional.” o.o

anyways…there’s only a little more than 1 month left guys! eep! xP

The guy I interviewed with told me that interviews play a part if you’re “on the bubble.” So like if its between you and someone who didnt have a good interview with the same stats, the interview would put you in. More like a benefit of the doubt sort of thing. But who knows.

First-year student at Rutgers/applying for a transfer to Gtown College in the Political Economics major/just finished my interview last Friday.

My interviewer told me this is just a routine process and he did not ask me any unexpected questions, which is very unexpected…
It seems like the guy didn’t like me very much because I am quite a talker and kept him listenning for about 90 mins.) Hopefully this won’t influence my application negatively.

should i be concerned if i haven’t been contacted for an interview? I’m worried… fyi i applied to MSB

@hross99 I would call admissions and just double check what the deal is- it would be unfortunate if there was a screw up in contact info or whatnot. But they do say on the website that sometimes if there are no alumni in your area they don’t bother since they don’t expect you to travel to it.

I have contacted my assigned interviewer multiple times with my schedule to try to get the ball rolling (yet still polite enough not to sound pushy)… and she still hasn’t gotten back to me… COOL.

Don’t even worry about the interviews my friend. As someone said in the previous page, it’s very possible that a lot of people are given interviews because of the lack of strong credentials (like me at least).

My gpa was incrediably low which only scored 3.2 last semester (got a serious conflict with a professor, unrecorded of course), and hopefully it will increase to 3.4-3.6 after the spring based on my performance in the midterms. Moreover, I am neither a athlete nor an outstanding social guy. God helps me on this application!

I am very curious abt why people from some very prestigious schools also want to transfer… no offence but for me going to Gtown is like buying a megamillion ticket, LOL

A very specific major subfield, departmental and university events, and access to the capitol, although I’m not sure I’d consider my current college very prestigious. Or not prestigious. I like my current school. It’s just not the right fit for what I’ve decided I want to do.

Same boat- my university’s really not prestigious and just doesn’t offer as solid a program in my area than in others. In many articles I’ve read people say it doesn’t matter so much where you’re coming from. They look at how you’ve taken advantage of the opportunities which you had access to-- just that you are a dynamic student who can maximize things regardless :)

hi guys, just spend more time on studying… Finals are approaching… without the outstanding GPA of this semester, we will be also difficulty to get in.

@alyssa, I don’t think that really applies to business. Firms are so superficial :/. But for other areas, yeah i think that applies. lol sometimes i feel like i don’t need to go to college because of that philosophy. but society does sigh…
I think my school is prestigious. depends on how you define it o.o. but it just doesn’t offer the same opportunities for me personally as gtown does.

Hahaha that’s true- stinks to think of what really makes the world go round so to speak!

I know what you guys mean. I wanted to go to USC because my major International Business is the #1 program in the country. Yet, there is little on campus recruiting, it isn’t near any big cities, and just lacks opportunities in general. It kills me to leave USC since I love it here, but the way I see it, you can have fun at whatever college you go to, but you won’t get the same education or as many opportunities as a place like Georgetown.

It is true, and apparently the Gtown old white admissions officers know we applicants will use such reasons.

significantlevel - u got the point… that’s why I just spent a couple of hrs on my in terminable Macroeconomics assignment… Life is tough, man…

I did my interview, the questions were…

why georgetown?

what were your highschool extra curricular interests?

Then we talked and talked for about an hour, about the schools at georgetown, my background, upbringing, my major and whether or not it was the best decision (considering whether or not it was my true passion), gave me a lot of advice about studying what I love, gave me career advice…

…and then she said that I had answered everything she had planned to ask…

:)

old white admission officers?

Is that really true.

whoa novastudent. o.o that was like my exact interview. except my interviewer went on a tangent on his work for a bit lol… i’m still a bit concerned that he doesn’t know what extracurriculars i have because he never asked for them…

I heard about students who received their decision in April/May last year…

Does anyone know if this is related to finishing Spring classes? Or maybe they weren’t taking Spring classes… so their file was read sooner.

On the application it asks for current Spring classes, and there’s a note that the GT needs to see the grades/transcript for these classes.

My final grades will be on my transcript May 7-14, then a few more days for mailing :(

Nova, I asked the admissions the same question last week, they would like us to send the transcript of current semester to them as soon as we finish the finals.

Does anyone know if they’re like some other universities that won’t make a decision until they have a final transcript?

I feel like by the time we send our transcript they’ll already have made their decisions. I think decisions last year came out in like mid may and june right? Maybe they want our transcripts for credit evaluation just in case we get accepted. I don’t know, that’s my theory. Because that’s what they said about sending AP scores.
