Counselor Rec: again, best friends so hopefully good

Other Factors: I had a summer internship with the Dean of Sciences at Monmouth University where I sequenced the MCl-1 gene for his research, then work as a tutor during school and over the summer. The interview was great; at the end, she said I’d be a “perfect fit at Georgetown,” but that could just be standard.

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: As strange as this sound, I’m going to be optimistic and appreciate the deferral because now I have something to work for. I could feel my GPA slipping (grr, senioritis) so now I have something to work for. I do love challenges. =)

A million congrats to everyone who was accepted! You guys are absolutely incredible, and you most definitely deserve it! =D

I just wanted to add that I really hope it didn’t seem like I was bragging or anythign like that, even though my scores weren’t all that great… I just thought I’d fill out one of those — whatever they’re called (survey?) since everyone else did (peer pressure, I know, hehe).*

I have to think that this person must be joking.
His or her scores are well below Georgetown’s averages and the weighted gpa leaves much to be desired. And writing essays the night before? Not smart.
However, if he or she was serious, this comment is a slap in the face to the qualified students that were deferred from Gtown. I would also hope that whoever you are, you have a lot more going for you that what you shared here.

Anyway, congratulations to accepted students! And deferred students, keep your heads up! :)

Got in to nhs. I hadn’t received the letter either here in FL but yea they tell u over the phone. They closed at 5 tho so u might have to wait till tmrw.

Come on guys, i didnt want to explain all my ECs and stuff in that post, but since you are wondering, im in key club, year book club, and I volunteered at a shelter once. Also, I think my great grandfather used to be a dean there or something…I dont know my mom helped me fill out my app

I absolutely hate the SAT. A 1360 completely discredited my other statistics and took me out of the running for Georgetown. Students with my GPA typically score 1500 or better on the SAT but I don’t. And colleges like Georgetown will see that and dismiss me as a competent individual because after all, one test score is a perfectly concrete example of a person’s success and ability to perform in a college environment. A grade point average, accumulated through years of hard work, means nothing.

I only wish more emphasis was put on other factors, besides this notoriously overrated standardized test =[

@college14hopeful… yup. It is a complete “slap in the face.” I couldn’t be more serious and passionate about gtown, and I got deferred with much higher standardized tests scores and GPA. I guess it just shows how subjective this process really is!

defferred
SAT: 2110-(CR 610, M 740, W 760)

AP’s: USH 5, Lit & Physics B 3
GPA: 3.92 -(weighted 4.45)

@birdybrains214 1360 isn’t terrible and hopefully you will be admitted regular decision. my SAT score was a 1380 so it wasn’t much better than yours but i did apply to mdb which is apparently a bit easier to get into from what I’ve heard. i did get in so don’t completely disregard your chances at georgetown, you never really know! good luck during RD

Is Georgetown “need-aware”? I was shocked that my nephew was accepted EA to Georgetown this year because his stats weren’t that impressive. However, they are full payers, so he didn’t request aid.

Does that make a difference? He’s also from the west coast.

To those who got rejected/deferred with high stats…Did you apply for FA? Do you think that hurt your case?

I have been lurking on cc for a while now, but I was too embaarrsed to post because im not as smart as you guys…I cant believe people online can be SO mean about this…i wish i never posted at all

and to all those people upset about deferral, I think my case is a prime example of how you can overcome bad SAT scores and a GPA and still get in!

To the Financial Aid question, yeah, I had to apply for Financial Aid.

All the people in Ivies at my school EA/ED didn’t have to apply for aid so maybe… (Random thought: it makes sense that they’d want to fill the seats with people who don’t need aid, then come back for the financial aid-ers RD…).

Apparently I applied early action (not sure how this happened… maybe because i applied rd so early in the year) and was deferred… Pretty good since i thought i was going to be straight up rejected.

To everyone who was attacking goin2Gtown14, maybe you got deferred because of your ****ty attitudes and total lack of awareness of and sensitivity to the feelings of others.
