Georgetown University Transfer 2019

I was accepted to MSB as a junior transfer as well. Can some people explain what exactly caused issues with graduating on time? That might be a deal breaker for me, but my current school’s academics and core is probably very similar to Georgetown, so I didn’t think it would be much of an issue. I am currently in a business school, and placed out of a lot of core with APs, and have taken a good amount of business courses already too. With internships as the priority as a business student, I don’t think I would do summer courses either. They wanted a list of my courses and course descriptions in a week from my acceptance, so I’ll get that together soon.

I wish I can worry about graduating on time… because I still haven’t heard back from them and I don’t think that I can get in lol

I will give it a try. This is not through direct experience, but through my cousin, a junior transfer to McDonough a few years ago. I am a sophomore transfer so it is not as much of an issue. According to my cousin, at least in McDonough, literally each course has to be approved by the department Chair (they want syllabi) . So, for instance ,a marketing class has to be approved and the Marketing Chair can say your University doesn’t teach the same thing Georgetown does. And it is true, marketing classes can be very different. That is just one example. My cousin said that they would not take his managerial accounting, so he had to take it again–and never got below a 98 on any test when the average was in the 70’s. He said it was ridiculous that he had to retake it, but Georgetown does suffer from always having to do things differently. The non-business classes have to line up with something Georgetown teaches. What they give AP credits can be seen online. To graduate on time you can overload some semesters with extra courses–6 a semester. But, that is a lot. He said the online summer classes were not too bad to do with an internship as long as its not an 80 hour a week internship. He was advised by his internal advisor against taking so many business classes at once in order to graduate in two years, but he did so anyway and did not find it too bad. Btw, Georgetown has 2 religion and 2 philosophy requirements that have to be met no matter what school you are in. I hope this helps a little.

@wantstogotoharvd Haha sorry I didn’t mean to make it sound ungrateful. Its just that for me the financial aspect is huge, so still waiting on FA and having to do extra courses and paying per credits is a huge extra cost in my scenario, which would make it unrealistic to accept and basically the same end result as a rejection. Georgetown was my first choice out of high school and I went from EA all the way to the extended waitlist(didn’t get officially rejected until I called them on July 1 since I never received a rejection letter!), so I understand how much waiting hurts, but hang in there!

@etransfer2019 Thanks for the explanation! My school’s core aligns with Georgetown’s very closely, so hopefully that with some APs can keep me on track.

Would there be another round of acceptances? Or the rest will just be waitlist and deny?

@kcasssuu no one really knows, but no SFS decisions yet

yeah as the post above has said, no one really knows what’s going on. All we can do is just speculating. My idea is that the majority of acceptances for the college and a few majors in other colleges have already been released, and now they are probably trying to figure out what to do with the remaining applicants to the college as to whether waitlist/spring admission or just reject them altogether. As for SFS, since we haven’t heard anything back yet so I guess they’re wrapping up their reviewing process and going to release the first wave of acceptances/rejects pretty soon.

Have many incoming sophomores received acceptance from the College? Tough to tell how many people have heard thus far.

was just told i’d be given an update tomorrow on my app. most likely a rejection considering the timing of it all but it’s nice to know i’ll have a good idea by tomorrow

Still waiting, not sure how much longer I’ll have to wait…

Since waves were released on Monday and Friday are we thinking they might release one today?

@ethanissavage did they say they’d notify you a specific way like phone or email? If they meant they’d release it on the portal the regular way, I’d assume lot of people will be getting an update then as well since they’ve been telling a few people Tuesday.

@falconic the specific person i was directed to to ask for an early read said they’d call me tomorrow regarding my app specifically

Ah okay, never mind then…

@ethanissavage So are they calling you or putting it on your portal?

@Ashtash call

@ethanissavage Same here. Good luck(:

Would asking for an early read somehow hinder chances in anyway? I’m tempted to ask…

I applied to Georgetown college but applied for the FLL program (Foreign Language and Linguistics) which I haven’t seen anyone else on this thread apply for. Best of luck to everyone!

@Needmoreec No, it won’t hinder your chances
