I’m guessig that every one who put Spring 2020 as their first choice didnt even get their applications looked at, rather automatically Extended WL.
@KD6410 i put fall admission as my preference so i think they actually did look at those apps at least
So did they take ANY from the Waiting List for fall?! Or the class was just full to begin…
@collegen98 they said it was full in the letter i believe
Extended waitlist…
Extended waitlist. Does anyone have a guess of how many people were put on this extended waitlist? Someone guessed there will be about 1000 people on the previous waitlist LOL … Just wondering how many this is gonna be… 500?
I wouldn’t be surprised if this one was 500 smh
Hey guys, I finally took the time to make an account. I was also put on the extended waitlist for Spring 2020. I want to be optimistic…but something is telling me not too. On the FAQ on Georgetown’s transfer page it says the majority of Spring 2020 admits would have already been extended. “e anticipate extending some if not most of our Spring 2020 offers of transfer admission between mid-June and mid-July. As noted in your letter, we will be back in touch with all Wait List candidates on or before July 15.” If so, and considering so many of us were extended offers, what chance do we even have?
Even though it says on the letter all will come from the extended waitlist, why is GU saying something different on their page. Just seems odd.
@2ioirwu22 change of plan I guess.
I’m going to call them and ask, will just be tricky because of timezones (in Taiwan right now)
So, so far people have only been rejected or placed on extended waitlist?
I think there should be at least someone got accepted for fall admission… not everyone has an account on college confidential though…
I am so sorry to say something so random here, but did everyone who was accepted got their financial aid package? I was accepted quite long ago, but I still didn’t get my financial aid package.
Extended waitlist people - are you sending in anything extra or is it just a waiting game (with slim odds)?
@gtown12345 I believe at least some people are going to, but I don’t think it’s going to make much of a difference since there are way too many waitlisted than they can admit.
You seem very certain 1wosba -what makes you say that? Do you have a sense of how many applicants were denied in the last round? ( “most” according to GU admissions in their letter?)
Also, the deadline to accept a place on the extended waitlist is Friday, so the exact number of folks on the list is not yet knowable. Some students will only transfer if they are admitted, others will have imperatives at other transfer schools and simply (understandably) may not be able to wait another month for an answer - Georgetown has been very specific; fifty students will be admitted off this extended WL. I don’t see the downside of waiting (if you are able) for the chance of admission to Georgetown University?
My uneducated best guess is that this extended WL has less than a hundred names on it (keep in mind the WL has a much higher yield than any other pool) and I like those odds - keep the faith.
I apologize for my uneducated assumption and if that cause any confusion to anyone. I also totally agree with your points. Georgetown is a school that definitely warrants just four more weeks of waiting, if people want that.
At the end of the day, we’re all just making wild guesses about the numbers, which no one knows about but the admissions office. However, it’s also impossible to not assume that a significant portion of people, to say the least, are invited onto the Extended WL, and that number could as well be way larger than the fifty people they’re going to eventually enroll. When almost everyone on this post who were on the original waitlist are now offered a spot on the extended WL, it just couldn’t be any more obvious.
If you want to remain on the list, absolutely go for it, and continue to write letters, if you will. But it’s probably for the best, given all the information we have so far, to keep your expectations reasonable.
Not gonna lie, the overall tone of the extended waitlist letter is quite optimistic to me. Could be wrong, but I believe GU meant it when they said they rejected most of the candidates. However, still, no one’s gonna know for sure of how many people are still waitlisted to this day. I agree with 1wosba that we should not set our expectation too high and keep it reasonable.
According last year’s thread, situations are quite similar. Many people shared they got extended waitlisted, and quite some of those people got accepted at the end…So last year’s probability might be small but not slim. Of course, it might different from year to year, and I am doing my best guess here.
Best of lucks everyone!!
According to the letter, are we expected to hear back on 15th August? That’s such a long wait.
