I honestly don’t have anything to send. I sent a LOCI in late June and I haven’t done much that worth adding. I’ll just do nothing and wait…
I 100% believe GU (and any other prestigious university) would have no problem lying to applicants. Realisticially their priority isn’t us or even current students, it’s making money by keeping their reputation. By lying on the Extended WL letter they prevent people from denying the spot, therefore lowering the number of people they can reject. So personally, I think there’s a good chance the letter isn’t truthful.
It should be before the 15th.
kd6410, I’m sorry I didn’t get you here. Why “they can lower the number of people they can reject” by making more everybody confirm their waitlist? The more people on the waitlist means more people have to be rejected, right?
Do you mean they have more candidates to choose from?
sorry not following you…“they prevent people from denying the spot, therefore lowering the number of people they can reject…”
Isn’t it the opposite? If your point is that they want to seem as prestigious and selective as possible wouldn’t they prefer the number of rejections to be higher?
Either way I don’t see how it matters because no one knows how many people will end up on the extended wait list anyway unless Georgetown announces it…so I doubt it will impact their reputation one way or the other.
I can’t get access to last years thread, does anyone know the earliest date someone got accepted from the extended waitlist? Were all 50 accepted at the same time?
Based on last year’s thread, those fortunate to be admitted should find out on August 2.
@Shurui @skyblueforever I meant that if they dont like, then more people are likely to turn down the waitlist. The smaller the waitlist the less students they can reject. By giving everyone false hope it makes the waitlist bigger so they can lower their acceptance rate.
@wantstogotoharvd yes! You have to access it through myaccess page
Haha ok thats quite the conspiracy theory you have going there Kd6410!
If I follow along correctly you think GU sent that last letter with a little bit of extra hope mixed in just so they can burnish their selective street cred by cynically breaking the hearts of a few additional Spring admit transfer students? Besides, we already know the transfer admit rate - it’s one hundred fall admits plus fifty spring admits for a total of 150/2600 or 5.77% (compared to their 2018 freshman class admit rate in the mid teens) but I suppose you think Georgetown is fibbing about those numbers too?
I do not. They can’t lie about the actual numbers because if they get caught they will drop significantly in USN. But colleges are a business at the end of the day and the goal is to make money. So yes, I do think they’re not being truthful in the Extended WL letter. Moreover when I called they refused to tell me how many people were offered the extended WL
Honestly I don’t judge anyone…but if you truly believe what you say here my (admittedly unsolicited) advice is to reconsider whether Georgetown University is the right school for you…I truly wish you all success wherever you find a place to finish your undergraduate studies whether at your existing school or elsewhere…
@kd6410 I see where you are coming from. As cynical as it may sound, I think you are partially right. I don’t see why the school wouldn’t leverage the false hope so they could have more applicants on the list to choose from. However, at this point It really doesn’t matter whether they’re being truthful or not. At least the way I see it is that the term “majority” is vaguely defined and it can mean basically anything.
Also, please don’t forget this is one of the most selective schools that has ever existed in the history of the world that we’re talking about here, and like it or not, this is how they recruit students.
I think the best advice this forum could ever give to anyone in this scenario is to make your own informed decision. Stay on the list, or withdraw yourself. It’s all up to you.
If you decided to stay in the game, best of luck to you. Otherwise, wish you nothing but all the best in another school.
I also wish everybody the best, I just wish we knew more about our chances. How many people are on the extended waitlist?! And what even are our chances!? My interviewer talked about kids from GW who found out about their GU acceptances a week before school started. In the end, I just have no idea what is going on in the GU admissions office lol.
Is anyone a rising junior on the extended waiting list?
yes, I am
I thought the extended waitlist was only for the Spring 2020 class?
Has anyone heard anything yet?
nope
