@obmom that’s actually really weird considering many of the waitlist acceptances we have seen on this thread have been from the new england/northeast area. i honestly don’t know why this is happening to us ahhh
Hi, My D is also on the extended waitlist. Her Stats: ACT 33 (34 super scored), 10 APs, good EC, great recommendations, AP Scholar with Distinction…We are from Mississippi. I do understand that this is not the region where colleges would look for great candidates, but there are some amazing kids here. I am not sure if it is just games, or the university is really trying to look at each candidate. Based on last year’s information I thought that they should be done with waitlists on May 15th. Does anyone have any idea why this year’s waitlist is extended?
I think there might be an extended wait list each year. Seems like many of the regular waitlist kids ended up on it (I don’t think I saw ANY waitlist kids that were rejected…did anyone get rejected on 5/15?).
As for the comments about reaching out to the regional AO’s…I have always gotten the sense that the Georgetown reps do NOT appreciate the direct communication, yet I am surprised to hear how many people have been reaching out. I feel like the admissions staff sends mixed signals on this.
For what it’s worth, I have a daughter at Georgetown now and the first time she got any direct communication with her rep was AFTER she was accepted REA a few years ago. She received a hand written Christmas card from her.
I doesn’t seem like there is any exact pattern to how the admissions office interacts with students. Seems like if they want you, they will figure out a way to contact you.
My current student in the meantime has committed to a higher ranked university…not that rankings are the be all and end all…but we are still holding on for Georgetown…but not getting our hopes up.
Thank you for your response! and congratulations to your student - getting into higher ranked university is great news!! so whatever Georgetown will decide your student can keep her/his head high anyways!
@victoriavw thanks so much and best of luck to your daughter! I’m sure she has fabulous choices!
My kid is still on extended waitlist, but did get a call this morning from her regional AO saying they’re doing more reviews this afternoon. Her stats are in line with Naviance saying she should stand a chance: ACT 36; SAT 1540; GPA 4.8, taken 12 AP courses, very active in Model UN, Model Congress and student gov; volunteered in local congressional office during the summer. Currently accepted a place in NYU Presidents Scholars program, and also waitlisted at Columbia, but Georgetown SFS is her clear #1 choice. Hoping that she gets a clear yes or no soon as it’s tough for all these kids who are in love with a school but needs to start planning and committing to their alternative options…
where are you guys from? i am waiting to hear from my AO
I got put on the extended waitlist. Currently committed to Claremont Mckenna College on a full ride, but really hoping that I get offered a spot. It seems like a lot of people have gotten direct calls/emails from AOs, so my hopes aren’t too high.
@kew5050 Did your D receive her acceptance, and if so how much time did they give her to accept.
Have any international students been accepted from the waitlist??
Yesterday May 26 a boy from California was taken off the waitlist. There is still hope!
@chickennoodlesoupppppp I think that’s a first from the West Coast. Do you know what school, and whether the AO emailed or called him first ?
@chickennoodlesoupppppp congrats to him! do you happen to know if it was southern or northern CA?
I was just accepted to MSB from extended waitlist. From the Midwest.
My AO reached out to me yesterday about updating my financial aid information (didn’t do css profile). Applied to MSB. Hopefully this is a good sign!
@scholar8190 good luck! that seems like good news! what state are you from?
Georgia
has anybody heard about any other movement on the waitlist in the past few days?
Has Georgetown announced plans for Fall 2020?
@klb222 Based on a May 21 FB post from the GU Student Association re Fall 2020 plans:
" No decision will be made for quite a while (approximately the end of June), the university is still evaluating options, consulting with the board of directors, and looking at other schools’ plans. The housing selection process for Fall 2020 will be delayed again and will not take place on June 1st. No matter how many students are on campus for the fall, most likely every student will have their own room, this means roughly 2900 students would be able to reside on campus if the university chooses to fill all rooms. No criteria has been developed regarding which students will be given priority to reside on campus for Fall 2020. One model which has been discussed does give priority to incoming first year students, students with tough situations at permanent residence, and seniors. However, there is currently NO MODEL BEING WEIGHED MORE HEAVILY THAN THE OTHER.
