How are they supposed to send out a decisions via snail mail by may 15th, yet they have not sent out any decisions according to dreamseeker’s call? Damn, I hope they send them express mail then haha

@pualum it’s not as bad as it may seem. I applied to the business school and I love statistics as part of business. Anyway so I have been googling all the stats I could to find out chances for this year. First off, last year they took 2,217 kids on the waitlist, 1,143 accepted, which is where the article you got got it’s number of 1150 from. Georgetown’s numbers are often off by a bit online so no two georgetown admissions articles are ever accurate. Anyways so 2000 this year is a plus for admissions chances for us. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean more people will get off of the waitlist. Georgetown as a school they accepted less total applicants this year than last year as well but at the end of the day it will come down to yield. Also since the yield wasn’t over 48% (hence the waitlist isn’t closed) it implies that for the waitlist roughly 1000-1100 kids again will accept the spot. So in summary “fingers crossed”

StanfordTree:

The articles might not have the exact numbers. In an article in the Hoya on April 5-6, 2013, Georgetown admitted 2413 RD letters of acceptance were sent out. The same article also states 2000 waitlist letters were sent out. The 2413 RD letters and this combined with 880 ED acceptance letters bringing a total poo of approximately 3293 acceptances from which Georgetown hopes to get approximately 1580 freshman deposits from this pool of ED and RDs. To the extent that acceptances run less than 1580, Georgetown will drawn upon the waitlist. I agree that it comes down to yield. WIll Georgetown be pulling 0 or 50 or 150 from its waitlists.

This year the waitlist has increased to 2000 which does bring us closer to Jim Carey odds.

I agree with you completely about the number of applicants their taking off of the waitlist. What I’m trying to tell you is they stated that they waitlisted 2000 this admissions process, but the article that said 1,150 waitlisted was written last year in May, it was stating the number who accepted spots from the waitlist. The article saying 2000 people were waitlisted was written on April 5-6th of this year, before they knew how many people accepted the spot and what not. If you google it there are other thread by Georgetown admission officers stating that they always waitlist about 2000 and about half don’t sign up in the end. Either way admissions was conservative and even with “summer melt” and everything else factored in their target number of 1580 wasn’t reached and so there is a good chance we can get off the waitlist. That said the waitlist isn’t 2000 people it’s probably around the same or smaller than last year’s 1,150 so it’s looking good. You also go on collegeboard lookup Georgetown, clicking the “Applying” hyperlink and then see that last year 2,217 were taken on the waitlist, 1,143 accepted the spot, and 84 taken off of the waitlist.

I see. Approximately 2000 are offered a waitlist place. Of those approximately one half accept the waitlist spot and half say no to the waitlist.

Thus you are stating that when the hoya does its annual May 17 or so article it will report a waitlisr.of 1000 or so and x number pulled from this 1000.
I concur and appreciate your posts.

Good luck this week and I.hope you are one of the x.

Good luck tomorrow everyone!

Are the results seen by tomorrow. And Pualum yes that’s what I meant, and good luck to you too! Hope you’re all part of the x that get in!

I think this year is quite strange. Did anyone see the waitlist thread last year?
People were being accepted continuously starting from 5.8 to 17th. I am curious why this year we hear only a few students getting in before the 15th…
Anyway good luck tomorrow everyone!

my hunch is that the number coming off the list is very small and tomorrow they send the sorry letters. I hope I am wrong. Good Luck to everyone!!!

My wait-listed son received a call on May 8 to confirm that he would come to GU (SFS) if offered a place; he replied and received a verbal offer on May 9. The official letter came today (May 14).

Congrats!!! and thanks for keeping us informed. That is exciting news for you!!

I called the admissions office and asked the following questions, and received the following responses:
- Are they notifying everyone regardless if they are taken off the wait list - the answer was yes
- Are they in fact taking people off the wait list this year - the answer was yes
- How will people be notified - the answer was “by snail mail - all letters - regardless of decision were sent today”
- I asked if the fact that my son has not received a phone call an indication that he will not be taken off the wait list. She replied by saying “No, all notifications will be by snail mail this year” and that depending on where you live, you will know tomorrow or Friday. Hope this is helpful - good luck everyone!

@hoyamother congratulation! I am also wait listed in SFS.
@pepper1 thank you! Well I guess international students like my self will receive decision letter on Friday… So tired of waiting…
hope everyone gets exciting news!

Anyone hear from GT yet? I called the school and the lady said that they already mailed earlier in order to reach on 15th…

Ugh I’m international so I probably won’t get my letter for another week or so. I’m so done with the waiting! Also just a quick note I was on another wait list and they said they would get back to me by the 6th but didn’t get back until the 8th, so it’s not always exactly when they say it will be (or at least that’s what I’m telling myself).

Nothing today. Heard a rumor of an extended waitlist option as one of the options.

So… do international students also get notified by regular mail? This is so frustrating I just want to know whether it’s good news or not and get it over with…! I live in Europe so it’s going to take at least 2 weeks… omg

@hhh10 I called the admission office and they said that all international students were going to be notified via email. She also added that emails will be sent within this week.
Good luck!

@hotspurs Oh thank you for that! So I guess I should just wait patiently… Good luck to you as well!

@hoyamother congratulation! May I ask you which state do you live? If they offered any information on how many people (%) would be off the waiting list? Thank you,
