***Georgia Tech Class of 2021 EA Applicant Thread***

Can someone send a link to an active groupme for the class of 2021?

I got in and I am only in AB calculus.

I got accepted and I am taking Calc AB, but BC is not offered at my school.

@jym626 I took calc ab only and got in

Son took BC last year (got 5 on AP). Took calc 3 in college in fall (A+) and now diff eq. He was deferred (also NMSF, valedictorian, SAT 1570, math II 800, physics 800, lots of ECs and community involvement). I don’t think you’ll be able to make any sense of the rejections. When a school goes “holistic”, logic can fly out the window.

has no one made a groupme yet? if not I can make one and post the link since no one has posted one so far

D was accepted in CS (OOS). BC last year and so for 10 5s on APs. Also accepted at Georgetown and U Chicago(both EA), but she was deferred at Michigan. Sometimes there is no reason for those admission decisions. Best of luck, everybody!!

@CaveMom I am so sorry to hear about your son’s deferral. That’s insane. But I have heard that GaTech considers applicants by major this year. Perhaps your son has indicated a major that is more competitive than the average. I have heard that C.S., EE and CE are much more selective than other majors. Also, is your son in-state or OOS? If in state, is he in a big public school in a good school district? If yes, getting into GT just becomes a lot more competitive. A highly accomplished STEM student in a good public school is taking Calc BC in 10th grade and then Calc II and III from GaTech in 11th and 12th grade.

I did not take any AP calc

@PrimeNumber2 yes, you nailed it. He applied to CS and is OOS from a college town in MO. There are one or two students per year here who take calc as a 10th grader. But, honestly, I didn’t think that would matter for college admissions! He got into CS at UIUC early and as a scholar, so we’re ok for high quality CS options. I knew GaTech was selective, but the stats of some of the rejected students do seem just insane to me.

Got in. From AZ.

Any International Students here that got accepted?

@indy101 I got deferred. What about you?

@CaveMom I am so sorry your son was deferred. From your post above, I might be able to make some sense of this nonsensical deferral. Your son’s standardized tests and subjective information are truly remarkable; however, when I see “lots of ECs and community involvement,” the first thing I think of is how could anyone possibly have the time to do all of that and do it well. Without awards to prove that your son did all of them well, that will raise the first red flag (at least for me). Does he participates in any CS related clubs? I have a much lower stats than your son (plus I am an asian male international applicant) but I participates in a couple of electrical engineering-related clubs and won state championships and got accepted. hope this helps

D was deferred too. OOS applied for CS. 2370 old SAT one sitting, 800 M and 760 Bio, NMSF , 6 AP’s with 5’s on all of them. Is in Calc BC this year. UW of 3.96. Pretty sure about good teacher recs, average EC’s with a summer research program and other regular clubs, tutoring etc. A little bummed about it but she is not as much so we shall see how March decisions go.

@indy101 I am from Thailand and got accepted!

@Shanexcel yes, you could be right. Most of his ECs are community (Sunday school teacher, camp counselor, volunteer), not CS-related. His academic activities are chess, quiz bowl, and math, so not specifically computer stuff. (He has taken 3 years of programming, but no computer clubs.) oh well!
