Georgia Tech offers several of these pathways for various categories. One is for arts and sciences. One is for first generation college students. One is for legacies, etc. I think it is a way to expand their transfer enrollment with people they believe are qualified based on initial applications and to give them an easier path to transfer if they meet all requirements (and they are pretty specific, right classes, number of hours, etc).
Hi, do you know acceptance rate for specific majors, like CS? Thank you,
The current acceptance rates by major haven’t been released (just the stats posted above) but you can find past acceptance rates on their website.
Where did you find that info?
Congratulations! Georgia Tech doesn’t consider common app essay.
Where was this info? Also, what was the number in the pool of RD applicants to determine the total of WL relative to last year’s numbers of 6k?
No, I don’t have that information.
It was sent from GT to a mailing list that I am part of.
I think pathway is pretty much guarantee to be able to transfer after 1 year in some other school with decent GPA, which is not difficult to get.
Pathway is a great option if you really want Tech. My oldest did it a few years ago and went to Georgia State then transferred. You can take a lot of the basics at an easier school and she even lived at an apartment near Tech campus to feel a part things. You are guaranteed acceptance as a 2nd year with 30 hours and a minimum GPA!
Didn’t know GT was doing that, but I know of someone who was waitlisted RD at UChicago yesterday and was given the secondary option of entering the Class of 2026 if not taken off the waitlist for the Class of 2025. I have no idea how many were offered that possibility. Never seen that before.
I had told him to EDII but he didn’t.
do u guys know how important the waitlist update form is with regard to whether or not you will be taken off the waitlist?
It sounds like it’s basically a LOCI so if you are able to provide more info that can only help you, but doesn’t mean if you don’t have additional info that it won’t necessarily hurt you. As some kids won’t have anything more to add since they applied, especially this year.
Sorry, I’m editing my last post because I finally looked at my son’s decision letter. If you read yours if you were WL you will see that it says the following:
“Students on the waitlist are evaluated based upon the information submitted in their application and the Waitlist Offer Reply Form. If space is available in our first-year class, we will offer admission based on the needs remaining to shape our class.”
So that sounds like it is pretty important that you want to have good information and provide updates to what you’ve done.
how is GT CS vs Duke CS ?
GT CS is one of the best programs in the country. If you want the program you go to GT, if you want the name school then it’s Duke. Also, at Duke CS is in Liberal Arts, at GT it’s in their own school of Computing. That’s also something to consider strongly. They are also two totally different types of campuses.
thanks. waiting for all ivy’s to report in april
If and when a student comes off the waitlist, is that the moment when they are also informed of their financial aid award?
Yep- the info with the RD stats was sent to counselors yesterday .
Thanks for the feedback - its sounds like a good option!
