Georgia Tech Class of 2025- Waitlist Thread

Any thoughts on who got in. Was it all test scores and grades.

Nope. It was definitely not. Very high emphasis on leadership and involvement, and the impact the student would make at Georgia Tech if admitted. They say they look at applications through the prism of their mission statement. You of course have to have the grades and the test scores as well, but absolutely not enough!

if i got a summer 2022 conditional acceptance, is there a certain number of classes i have to take? also, can i defer it to fall 2022

edit: i see someone previously said you cant defer it

You cannot defer it. You must enter in summer 2022. You have to satisfy the transfer requirements for your major plus have 30 credits either completed or in progress. AP credits and DE credits do not count towards the 30 hours.

What’s the minimum credits I would need to take over the summer at tech after transferring. like what is the minimum? i think i might go on vacation so i was just wondering

With the Covid19 Delta variant cases going up again in the south, wonder if the classes will be held in person!

No idea! I would also like to know the entry date. Is it full summer or part summer like ignite? There will be a couple of weeks between the start of the summer term and the fall term so you can vacation then or prior.

Most will be in person and there will be no changes to delivery mode. 15% of 1000 and 2000 level classes are hybrid. The rest fully in person. The vast majority of upper level classes are in person.

I came in here after over a month to check on all of you and was hoping for some good news
guess the transfer pathway is the best we could have gotten in this year’s situation.

@srparent15 - I agree with your assessment of this year being one of the worse and that the college counselors should not beat around the bush
everything has been mind boggling to me and given it was my first kid this year (who I think got lucky getting off WL at both NYU and UPenn
& then he accepted Penn & took himself off the consideration from GT), I am dreading going through this process for the rest of my kids.

Wishing you all the very best in your colleges!

Have you figured this out? This may impact my son as well. He got 4 on one Physics C AP, and his current colleges take 4 for credit (but both 4 and 5 count for 3 credits only, w/out lab credit), so he will be taking one physics lab. With the 3 credits from AP, plus the one for lab he is taking this semester, this counts for one Physics with lab for GT. Another Physics (with lab) he got 5 on the AP, so is planning to use that directly. Does this plan work? It will show in his transcripts that he doesn’t take the course and the lab together.

Also, though DE doesn’t count for the 30 credit hours, it does count towards the GPA calculation. Do you know for this, do we need to try to transfer the DE courses and let them show on the scripts, or we can just use the DE grades directly (the courses were taken with GT)?

No sure if anyone else has same situation. Thanks!

What college is your son at now? I think you should get the definitive answer directly from GT.

Good idea, will do that, thanks!

Never got an answer for this. My son actually got into an 8 AM lab but dropped it because has no intention of transferring and doesn’t need it for his degree. It was 20 minutes from his dorm and three hours before his next class so would have been a real pain. If he should change his mind to transfer he will have no choice but to take the lab separately or take an additional lab science. Let me know what you figure out!

For the summer 2022 transfer, do we get to pick which summer session?? I know they have a late may-early august one and they also have a late short and an early short semester? Do I get to choose?

I assume it is full summer.

@VirginiaBelle
My daughter was on the GT Comp Sci waiting list, and we were considering transfer after 1 year. We make sure she will satisfy the GT transfer requirement.
She eventually picked OOS UIUC instead of UCSB or UCI. 4 out of her 5 courses are in person. After 1 month at UIUC, from what I see now, I think it would be better off for her to stay put. Also, transfer probably will set her back one or two classes.

Excellent school and agree. It is pretty disruptive to transfer if you are are at a school like that. Different if you’re coming from a community college or other school without a lot of school spirit and plan on transferring going in. Only reason my son will transfer at this point is if he decides he’s unhappy (and he is not). Although a lot of people transfer into GeorgiaTech, many have a difficult time integrating into the school and making friends. But of course depends on the child, but as a transfer student you really have to put in some serious effort and put yourself out there. I know a couple of kids in that boat where it didn’t work out well. College is certainly for getting a degree and setting yourself up for a career, but it is also about the many social and personal lessons and growth that happens there.

My daughter signed apartment lease contract last Friday with 30 other freshmen last Saturday. They got group and promo discounts and had to be done by 10/02. Most of them are Gringer Engineering students. Guess she won’t seek transfer for sure!

My son isn’t transferring and has known that for months. His roommate who went in thinking he would transfer to Tech is not transferring either - just signed a lease for next year.

I am not sure who is still watching this thread, but hopefully can get an answer. Now it’s time to apply for summer admission (with conditional transfer pathway), and from the GT transfer group I heard that one needs to apply (under conditional pathway) to whatever major the conditional offer was made for. In my son’s conditional offer letter we didn’t see there was a major specified.

Would there be another email from GT for this that we overlooked? Or was it actually the case that GT specified the major you should apply (for conditional)? Or does GT assume one applies to the same major as previous year’s application?

Thanks for any inputs.
