I have a couple of friends who work at kumon and they seem to enjoy it. The hours are manageable and I think it can be similar to tutoring. I think it’s fine if you just call and ask if they have openings. You could also walk in and just ask.

thanks, i emailed them like 4 days ago but i still havent gotten a response…hmm…

I work at Kumon! I called a year ago and talked to a lady and then came in for an interview. She didn’t get back to me for a year and I’ve been working there for the past couple weeks. It’s actually more boring than I thought- you mostly check papers and sometimes help kids (at least I do, but I tutor elementary math, so it is pretty basic). It seems pretty competitive to work at Kumon, I’ve seen two people come in looking for jobs there in the time I’ve been there! Good luck though! :)

For a year??

I work there right now. It’s horrible. I hate it. The pay is terrible.

But the hours are good and I need the money.

I worked at kumon over the summer…It SUCKS. They make you grade papers all day so its really boring. The pay is about 2 dollars above minimum wage for where I live so I dont complain about that.

I get minimum wage -__-

1) It is not tutoring. It’s mostly grading. Basically, you sit there and grade these packets they do for homework. They have to do one every day of the week, so on Monday’s they come in with 5 finished packets. Each. Luckily on Wednesdays they only have Tuesday’s homework so at least it’s easier. But the point is, it is very repetitive and boring.

2) While you are doing this, there are approximately 5 children at your table working. As they finish their packet they will immediately demand that you stop what you are doing and grade it.

3) Most of the kids don’t want to be there. There are a lot of behavior issues. It is exhausting to deal with.

4) This is more just the Kumon where I work but we are always understaffed so we have to work until like 8. 5 straight hours of grading sucks. Also, my boss is rude. But of course I put on a smile and deal with it because I am just a menial employee. All the more reason to go to college and work my way up in a better job.

What are the reqs to work at Kumon? would it be a good first job?

It’s just like any other job. You just apply.

I had experience teaching piano leasons, both in a studio and privately. There was an interview. But I don’t think it’s very competitive.

I mean, I would rather work at a restaurant or grocery store but whatever floats your boat.

I worked at Kumon for a year. It was great for the first 3 months when they let me actually work with the upper level math and try to teach the kids. Once they got me into it and happy, they moved me to just grading papers 24/7 and it sucked. They treated all the employees like ****, and people were constantly leaving and coming in. It was like a revolving door. Work anywhere else than Kumon, ITS TERRIBLE!!

uh, What exactly is Kumon?

@Descuff: It’s a place where kids go to learn math and english…well…kind of learn. I went when I was younger;it was okay. They give homework every week, but I don’t think it helps that much…

Descuff, do you know what google is?

I just sent them my resume! I was wondering if anyone knows how difficult it is to tutor the kids? (age, level of math and reading, etc)

The material isn’t difficult. You spend more time grading than actually interacting with children.

Does anybody know how old you have to be to get a job there?I looked on the website but I couldn’t find it.
Also what are the hours like?
Working at Kumon grading papers sounds a lot better to me than standing up 8 hours straight in a restaurant

You have to be like 14. Depends on the boss. As long as you have a work permit you’re fine.

I disagree but ahh well.

I’m not asking google, I’m asking you.

Kumon sounds like an okay job. I can’t stand for long periods of time, so working anywhere else isn’t doable. I didn’t know you could do that while still in HS.

I’ll just keep lurking this post. Lol
