Getting caught driving w/o a license

Yeah, so I only have my permit...my friend really needed to get to her lacrosse game, so I told her I would drive her to the school (only a couple of minutes away). I got pulled over by a cop for speeding, and now I have two tickets (one for speeding (only like 5-10 miles over the limit), and one for driving w/o my license.)

My question: do any of you have any idea of what's going to happen to me (ex. how much will I get fined, will I get my permit revoked, will I have to wait longer to get my lisence, etc.)? I really have no idea and I really don't want to wait a month to find out in court. Obviously, I know that none of you are going to be able to tell me any exact figures, but a rough estimate would be good b/c I'm a little clueless right now. Oh, and I also know that I'm an idiot for getting pulled over in the first place, so you don't have to tell me that, either. :) Thanks for any help you can give me.

Ok it depends on the state. In mine (MA) if you get a speeding ticket with your permit, you have to wait another 6 months before you get your license.

^that's probably if you have an adult in the car with you.

I'm in NY...somebody told me that I won't be able to get my license until I'm 21, which is why I'm freaking out now (I really hope that it's not that long- I'm 16 now!)

Yeah, in Washington we have this whole complicated thing where you get your permit at 15, "license" at 16 (but can only drive family members...no friends!), and at 16.5 you can get the regular license. If you get a ticket though, you can't drive until you're at least 18.

I'm not sure about New York's laws but waiting till your 21 sounds pretty similar to ours.

We get our permits at 16, restricted licenses 3 months after (only driving to school events, work, etc.), full license 3 months after that.

Really? 21? Yuck, 5 years is such a long time...anybody else know anything about this?

If that is true, just go to court.

Looks like a 60-day suspension.

I think I have to go to court anyways...how does that help? Sorry if I seem clueless (this is the first time I've ever gotten in this much trouble).

*edit: this is for the person after me- I have no idea how I my post appeared before his/hers...
And, Hecatonchires, I hope it's only 60 days...what do you mean about obeying the laws?

And if you're going to be driving without a license, you should at least have the sense to obey the laws fully.

I don't mean to scare you, but you should probably expect to have your license revoked until you're 18. I don't think it would be as late as 21, but don't expect to be a (legal) driver until after high school.

I doubt they will be lenient, since not only did you drive without a license (which is a big, big deal by itself) but you also went 10 miles over the speed limit while doing so. Seems like a lapse of judgment on your part, but you already know that.

If you're a good student, make sure to mention it. I think judges like smart kids.

if your in MA and you are driving without a license, it is considered a felony i believe? and you are arrested

Thats not true you can get a ticket in washington before your eighteen you still get to keep you liscence maybe multiple tickets or something but ive gotten a ticket when i got in an accident and im still driving

Really? I'm not too clear about all the different license stages. I guess my parents were just trying to get me to be extra careful or something ;)

yeh well who really knows with all those different rules.

hmm ... if you were my kid I would suggest the laws of the state would be the least of your concerns; the laws of mom and dad would be the much bigger issue.

I'm pretty sure that you'll get it suspended until you're 18. That's what happens in Georgia. Whenever I drove before I got my license I always drove slow... have to be careful.
Didn't you get a ticket for having someone else in the car, reckless endangerment, perhaps? They like to tack on weird things sometimes. My firend got into a car wreck on a beautiful day and they put on driving to fast for conditions. Another friend got into a wreck and along with a DUI he got a hitting a permanent object, or osmething along those lines. They both lost their licenses. But they already had they're real ones.

^ That girl had a permit? I heard that she had nothing whatsoever.

There is a site that allows you to check the minimum and maximum fines of your situation. I don't remember the site though. I'll post it if I find it.

Im sorry to hear this....im for ny too and i know how sometimes you really need to drive somewhere.....Often times, when i really needed it, my parents gave me the permission to drive without a permit, but i always refused it in fear of loosing my license.....Now in your case, you must explain your reasons for driving without a license to the judge. However your reasons for driving without a license was invalid, and plus you were going over the speed limit...Due to this reasons, there is high possibilty your license will get revoked till your 21 because of NYS Laws. Remember the laws in New York are very strict than many other states
