I am currently a sophomore at my high school and have decided to attend the college of engineering in Cal Poly. Even though I am a sophomore, I will be graduating next year and continue my education at a community college before transferring to Cal Poly. At the community college, I will be completing 14 out of 17 fields of the required general education categories of Cal Poly, specifically for the aerospace engineering department. I will also complete 3 out of 18 major courses, and 9 out of 15 support courses for the aerospace engineering department.

Although, if I decide to come in as a freshman after I complete my junior year at my high school, I will be looking forward of applying with the completion of AP Calc BC, AP Physics C, with a score of 4 or 5 on both, all three years on the swim team as well as on the water polo team, all three years in the student government, 3 years of Spanish, I will also have completed AP World History, AP Econ, AP Gov, and all the other requirements. According to my current progress, I will be looking forward for a 3.7 unweighted GPA, and around 1300 on the SAT test.

My question is, would it be more reasonable for me to transfer to Cal Poly from a community college, or come in as a freshman? My main fear is that I might graduate from high school with what Cal Poly migh accept me with, go to a community college, and not get into Cal poly afterwards. I have this fear because when I look at Cal Poly's acceptance rate, I see that the acceptance rate of freshman is higher than the transfer rate. Although, I do also notice that less people apply as a transfer, and the average GPA of a person that gets accepted as a transfer is probably something I will be able to easily earn. I also fear that I will be stuck in a community college with no classes because of the budget cuts.

I'm looking forward into an answer describing what my best choice might be, attending Cal Poly as a freshman, or as a transfer. By the way, I will apply to Cal Poly as a freshman regardless weather I decide to transfer or not. I might just change my mind at the time of reading the acceptance letter.
