Getting Rescinded and Summer? Urgent

Hi all, I was admitted by UCLA in Fall 2012 and my major is Business Economics. I needed to pass all classes in this semester but unfortunately something happened in my family.

My sister committed suicide and then was diagnosed as suffering some serious psychological problems. She received hospitalization for a month and I suffered from this accident and bore all the responsibility for dealing with this accident. (father went out of country and mother doesn't know English and how to drive etc...)

I then struggled with Calculus 2, my last major class, and eventually got a D. I already asked about my grade and begged the professor to pass me but got no response at the moment. I know I am going to be rescinded if the things go the same.

But the question is, there's another college opening Calculus 2 class tomorrow and it ends at 8/3. Should I go to add that class? Would it be helpful? I know I need to send in my official transcripts in July 15, so there's no use attending the class? Thanks in advance.

You should try giving the admissions office a call. If you do happen to get your admission revoked, you can always try appealing. In your appeal letter, talk about your situation and maybe they will understand. Best of luck, and sorry to hear about the situation.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply. I was in a very devastated mood but your post boost me up a bit. If the professor really ignores my emails, I would try to contact the dean for help. Hope I could get out of this trough. I know the chance is very slim but I will still try.
But who could answer me that should I go add the class tomorrow? Is it worth trying?

Check me if I’m wrong, but I think if you retake a class, UCs don’t look at the first time you failed it. The only problem is that it might be too late to take that class. I don’t really have an answer to that, but I would have to say call the school and ask them if taking that class would help you or not.

I am very sorry to hear what you’ve been going through. I’ve been in a similar situation, my dad died during my first year of college and it was tough. If UCLA doesn’t understand and give you a break with calc 2 that would be shocking. Definitely give them a call tomorrow and get an add code for the class just in case, but don’t underestimate the need to take some time off and deal/heal with this emotionally…hang in there :)

Thanks for all your replies. My professor gave me a short reply yesterday. I would wait till her decision to see what should I do afterwards. If I am set to get a D, I would give UCLA a call and try to add a summer class. Thanks for you guys concerns and I hope I could eventually go through.

Any suggestions by others? Thanks in advance.
