UCSD admission rescinded?

I can't seem to wait one more day to ask a UCSD counselor about my sticky situation, so I'd like to know what y'all think. I got into UCSD as a fall 2010 transfer student, but I've had trouble focusing this semester with my mom in and out of the hospital, and my grades are indicative of that. I took 16 units my last semester, and three of the courses were pretty difficult. I am satisfied with all of my grades except my grade in Survey of Calculus. I got an F. :/ My first one. I already took Statistics my fall semester, so I didn't even need this class. The only thing I'm concerned about is that I'll have 57 units completed instead of 61 because of the F. I know it won't be the end of the world if I get stuck at CC for another year, but I was really looking forward to it. Should I appeal? Do you think I'd be able to take a class in summer school?

Well, I’m no expert, but you can’t explain your home situation to them? Having a sick parent would throw many of us off.

Have they already rescinded your admission? If you need that class to transfer, ask if they’ll allow you to take it in the summer.

No, they haven’t…in fact I submitted my SIR yesterday just in case. I talked to a UCSD counselor a while ago, and she said that it’s alright if I don’t pass that class because I have already fulfilled my math subject requirements. The problem is, I didn’t get a D. I got an F. I guess I’ll just have to wait and ask. :/

I don’t think it will be an issue because 1. your counselor already told you your math req was fulfilled and 2. you have a pretty good reason with your mom being sick.

You may want to talk the the counselor again, although its probable they won’t even say anything to you about it. Your call.

Thanks for your input…I’m just worried about fulfilling the unit requirement. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re not understanding about my situation if my professor wasn’t. But all I can do is try. As down as I feel about it now, I’m sure the world won’t end even if my admission is rescinded.

I have a friend who last got into UCDavis (transfer). He dropped a non-required class, thinking that was okay and later got his transfer RESCINDED because he then had less than the needed 60 credit minimum. From what I recall, UCDavis did not give him another chance to make up the (random/fluff) extra 3 credits over the summer.

So, this is serious, you need to talk to a real human at your transfer college and see if there is a way to make up the lost credits. I know that last year UCs like Davis as well as many CSUs were looking for ANY excuse to peel students off of their transfer rosters.

Are the 60 credits required for you Hash? If so, why would your counselor tell you it would be alright if you didn’t pass? Getting a D and F are the same credit wise.

That’s exactly what I was scared of.

The 60 units are required for me, but I’m guessing I’d still get the units if I got a D. I talked to two counselors about this and they both said the same thing, but I can’t seem to remember if they specified that I can’t get lower than a D. I’ll find out tomorrow. :/

Send them an appeal explaining your situation and tell them that you’re going to make up the class over the summer at the CC you failed it at.
If you don’t redo the class there, then you can’t do an academica appeal and your gpa will suffer.

If the cc you attended doesn’t offer the course over the summer then you’re skrewed.

IF you have a good enough gpa WITH an ‘F’ then maybe they’ll let you redo it over the summer at ucsd.
I’m in the same predicament with UCSC right now.
GOOD LUCK!

Thanks! I’m screwed though. My CC doesn’t offer it. They told me I would have been okay but the fact that I’ll be short 3 units will set me back. I’m going to turn in an appeal even though I know it’s probably pointless.

:(

I know. Its the worst feeling in the world, right?

I have 23 thousand in grants for ucsc and It might all go down the toilet.
I turned in an appeal for UCSB and they told me that they need my final spring transcript to make their final decision. F*** me. I’m so frustrated with myself.

To top it all off grades aren’t even officially posted yet, so I’m living with this morbid suspense. I hope I passed my math class, but I’m not holding my breath.

Yeah I was on the verge of failing out of my 4 unit Calc 2 class this semester, 57 units instead of 61 as well. I am still uncertain of how this is going to end up by doggone it I’m fighting to the death here. Finals next week! UCSD transfer.

I was in the same situation, basically 1 unit short of 60.

I JUST took a credit-by-exam today for 3 units and passed. I feel ridiculously relieved :]

I would recommend for you to try and petition for a late credit-by-exam a-- just act fast.

Good luck!
