Really Need Help..its for UCLA!

So I'm in a math class right now which is pretty difficult for me (intermediate calculus, upper math course) and have a C right now. I just took a test the other day and I don;t think I did to good. Dropping with a W deadline is tomorrow and I have no idea what to do. I'm a Math/Econ major and the UCLA adviser told me UCLA min=ght NOT revoke my admission if I get a W because it isn't that impacted.
What you guys think? W or no W? I can retake it over the summer as well. Don't want to get a D or an F!
THANKS

I thought you can’t take math/English classes in the summer? Don’t those have to be done by spring?

Have you been admitted?

Yes, I have.

the W sounds good

intermediate calc isn’t upper division*

you don’t think you can raise it up? if your a math/econ major don’t you have to take it. I am going to assume your going to take it at UCLA right?

if you can at least keep a C then i would stay, otherwise your going to have to wait till your at UCLA to take it. And that will add up to your list of courses you will need to take.

If the UCLA adviser told you that if you drop this specific math class your admission offer will not get rescinded, drop it. Take it at UCLA, during summer if you’re afraid it will slow you down otherwise.

It’s not worth the risk of getting a D and possibly getting rescinded. But make absolutely sure you can drop the class and be ok, if you can get an adviser to email you saying that it would be even better so you’d have a record just in case.

do you guys know of anyone who told UCLA they got a W and still let them keep their admission. It’s a big decision on my part because my dream school could go away in a split sec :/

btw, thanks for the responses!

hey, it says under ‘course requirements’ that I need to have a mathematical concepts and quatitative reasoning course done. I don’t remember taking/planning to take one? unless precalc counts. help?

^ lol

I was also accepted into UCLA’s math/econ program and dropped a class this Spring. I dropped a Physics class I was taking for Engineering (applied different places with different majors). I called them and they said it should be okay. So, I dropped it, reported it on the website, and they emailed me back 2 days ago or something saying they received my changes and it would NOT affect my admission.

I am pasting the below from another thread that asked basically the same question. We need to help each other out, here, and have a good answer for this question that keeps appearing about UCLA rescinding acceptances after getting W’s.

"That’s a good question. I was also taking a course that was only required for Berkeley, and I dropped it, got into UCLA, and am now waiting to hear if my admissions decision will be affected (@ UCLA). I dropped a course called “Quantitative Analysis: Chemistry 5,” though. You know, if we all pooled our resources I’ll bet that we can find out an answer. I’ve called around all week and got 2 UCLA transfer rep phone numbers/emails, here:
Amanda Eversmann: (916)418-4394 aeversmann@ucla.edu
Ben Kwak: (310)794-4273 bkwak@saonet.ucla.edu

Leaving voicemails and emailing both of these reps didn’t get me a response, yet. Maybe you’ll have better luck? ha. I’ve also emailed the Chemistry department at UCLA (no response), sent a typed letter to the UARS last friday, submitted academic changes online at the UCLA website yesterday, and spoken to admissions at UCLA on 2 separate occasions, this week. No definitive answer. If you find anything out, then by all means, please let me know. Thanks"

to applej4x: did you get a W, or did you drop before the withdrawal deadline? Was it part of your lower division prerequisite courses? Thanks :)

BUT! - The Physics class was COMPLETELY unrelated to math/econ and likely wasn’t a factor in my admission. A math class you’re currently taking may have been a factor in your admission to a MATH/econ major. Regardless, a W is better than a D/F any day!

I got a W. And no, it was not a part of my prerequisite courses. It was a prereq for Computer Engineering at another school, but I’m going to UCLA as a math/econ major. Also, I’ve completed IGETC and my Physical Science requirement for it already.

So, I talked to a UCLA transfer rep, today, and he told me that each individual case is evaluated separately, and that he couldn’t definitively say what the outcome would be, for me, after dropping a course and receiving a “W.” He said that when admissions admits an applicant, they’re doing so on the premise that they will be taking Spring semester courses, and that these courses are part of the admissions decision. Also, he would not say whether I stand to have my admission rescinded, or not, because he didn’t want to say something to the contrary of what the penultimate decision/outcome of all this will be. To me, this means that I’ll have to wait until admissions notifies me of their decision. If they decide to rescind, there is the appeals process to contend with. What does give me some hope is that I received my admissions packet in the mail, today, and along with the “big letter,” I received a packet from financial aid stating that I will be receiving a UCLA scholarship based on academic merit and financial need. I’m hoping that this is some reflection of their faith in my potential to succeed at UCLA. I hope that this helps some of you.

Landspeed, did you drop a class with a W and was it okay with UCLA…?

has anyone received anything from LA after submitting a class change form?
