Do a lot of people at Brown fly into Logan International Airport in Boston rather than the one in Providence because it has better deals. If so, what is the best way to get to providence from boston. I have looked at the MBTA and it seems to have a commuter line that goes all the way to Providence. Is this preferred way to get to Brown or is there another more convenient way? Thanks in advance.

amtrak?

There are many private/shared vans/limo services that you can use.....they are easy and if you have a lot of luggage it is convenient. I have also used the train as you are considering.

Amtrak is twice as expensive as the MBTA train, but is nicer and runs on the weekends. Greyhound/Bonanza buses are the other major option.

Ive taken the SIX HOUR amtrak ride from philly to ptown every time, but I have been mocked for this. Apparently Southwest aitlines is half the price and half the time...Ive heard good reviews of it!

On a weekday, the commuter rail is the absolute best way to get from Boston to Providence; never mind Amtrak or private limos or any of taht stuff, the MBTA train is perfectly nice for a ride that won't last an hour (I took it regularly for two years).

If you do fly into Boston, you'll end up taking the Silver Line Bus to South Station, then you'll take the commuter rail from there to Providence, then you'll either have to walk your luggage the 20 minutes up College Hill or take a cab.

I'm actually really surprised that you've found better deals at Logan, though. Where are you flying from? I live about a 15 minute drive from Logan and an hour drive from PVD, and we still drive down to Providence half of the time because the flights are so much cheaper. Have you checked Southwest, Song, those kind of airlines. It used to be that Southwest only flew into Providence, not Boston, so they had pretty good deals...

Yeah, Southwest should be pretty cheap since they've been having a fare sale. I got a 1-way ticket for myself plus a roundtrip ticket for my mom for about $180 (to TF Green airport).

I ended up spending 220 for one round trip ticket to providence using delta. By the way, im coming from georgia. Airtran is charging 74 dollars for a one way flight into boston right now.

and southwest doesnt fly out of atlanta so i would have to drive an hour to get to birmingham, ala if i wanted to fly on southwest. One more question: i thought that the silver line was an actual subway line. On the website, it makes it out to be a subway line.

Silver line is technically a "rapid transit system"...it's just these huge busses that are supposed to have dedicated lanes on the road and go through underground tunnles at times. Big waste of money from the MBTA as usual.

Edit: The rest of the T is cool though.
