I haven't read a good book in a while, and I was wondering if anyone could suggest something, anything to me. A brief summary would be nice, unless it's obvious. Basically I'm looking for a book/s that I can get into, a page turner. But really, anything, if it helps I'm a guy.

Might be useful for you to give genres that you'd like.

Right, ummm...fiction-thrillers mysteries, non fiction-sports, current events political stuff, but if it was a great book please throw it out there

Can't help you with the others, but for mysteries, read any Agatha Christie? Not too much on the "thriller" side, though. How 'bout Tom Clancy?

Never heard of Agatha Christie, I'll look into it, and Tom Clancy I know is popular so maybe I will try one, I'm going out to the library soon, have a suggestion for which to start with?

Any of Christie's Poirot books would be a fun read - you may want to avoid Mrs. Marple mysteries, since you prefer a bit more action (Poirot doesn't have too much, but Mrs. Marple has even less).

Tom Clancy? Watch out for a few subpar ones - I recommend Hunt for Red October, but that's because it was the first one I read. Mind, they are set in Cold War scenarios, so that might be a turn-off for you.

Oh, and I forgot Michael Prescott. His novels are good, too.

A Confederacy of Dunces John Kennedy Toole
A Prayer for Owen Meany John Irving
Theory of War Joan Brady

Lonesome Dove
Horseman Pass By
The Last Picture Show
Texasville
Duane's Depressed All by Larry McMurtry, the last three are a trilogy

Agatha Christie wrote Murder on the Orient Express

I highly recommend the Hercule Poirot series- they're interesting cases, plus there's some itneresting characters in it, like Hastings, his side kick. Then there's always Sherlock Holmes, which is the quintessential mystery dude, and all his stories are great

Seems I'm not the only one who loves Poirot!

Eh, Holmes rubs me the wrong way, as a character (arrogant in an insufferable way, IMO), and I couldn't stand him. Poirot is just fun, though! Such a quirky, lovably brilliant character (that he derides Holmes doesn't hurt, either :p).

I really loved A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon. He's a great author, and if you liked that book, you should read his The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time also. Right now, I'm reading Saturday by Ian McEwan. As you can see, I'm a big fan of British fiction.

I'm going to have to also recommend Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot books. Sorry, can't help it. There too good. You might also want to read her book "And then there were none" and although it doesn't have too much action, it has plenty of murders. However, try to avoid Miss Marple cause she's dull.

For current events, you can look into Jimmy Carter's "Palestine, Peace Not Apartheid."

i believe the books Lolita by Nabokov and A Clockwork Orange by Burgess deserve at least one mentioning

Dispatches from the Edge - Anderson Cooper
Culture Warrior - Bill O' Reiley
The Worst Person in the World: and 202 Strong Contenders - Keith Olbermann

And I am not ashamed.

kunfuzed-I actually have Dispatches from the edge, ive been meaning to read it
snoopy-That's funny they have books like that, I don't know but it seems like it could ruin the seventh book if you know what might happen, but has anyone read it?

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

Long, but everyone tells me it's good.
Im going to read it over spring break.

"The Worst Person in the World: and 202 Strong Contenders - Keith Olbermann"
I started reading this book in the store, so funny! His intense hatred for mr. bill cracks me up. I didn't buy it though

"Memoirs of a Geisha" was a really amazing book. The movie was great as well.

A book off of Oprah's book list, normally they are quick reads. For example
A million little pieces, it was awesome and got Oprah ****ed off at the same time.

lol at snoopy.
They'd better sell lots of copies of that book fast before the seventh book comes out.
Did I mention I'm totally pumped for the seventh book?
