Good CSU for chemistry/biochem major?

My chances of getting into a UC aren't swell. What are other CSU's that I can use as back ups?

bump bump bump

Cal Poly’s would be good. I don’t think it’d be that difficult to get into Cal Poly Pomona as a chemistry major. If your GPA isnt good, Cal Poly SLO is out.

Depends. CSU Northridge sucks, in general. Anyone with a pulse can get in there 'cause they accept like 75% of their applicants. 80% is like at Humboldt.

For Chemistry at Cal Poly Pomona, there was a 53% acceptance rate in Fall 2011.

4.0 GPA and 1810 SAT. Too low for SLO? What about SDSU?

4.0 GPA? Unweighted? If so, then it depends on your SAT score.

Also, CSU’s don’t work with 2400. They work with 1600. What is your combined math and critical reading score? I think the average SLO applicant has 12XX and in the engineering discipline 1300+. 1320 is on the high end, 1110 at the very lowest.

Cal Poly Pomona’s hovers around 1100 for the average applicant but around 1200 on the high end. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of dumb people Cal Poly Pomona accepts locally which is kind of dragging down its reputation although lately its been gaining more recognition. I’d say you’re definitely in at Pomona if you would consider it. The Cal Poly’s are generally the best for the sciences within the CSU system.

SDSU had over 50,000 applicants this year. If you’re not local…good luck. On the high end for SDSU applicants have 1200/1600. Priority is given to locals and they also have lower standards for them. This is true across all, if not most CSU campuses.

According to your earlier post, you have a weighted GPA of 4.4. Contrary to what you said, I think you have a fair chance at a UC, and I encourage you to apply. Your weighted GPA is average for a Cal/UCLA applicant, but your chances would be better at UC Davis, which also has a renown chem/biochem department. That said, also apply to the Cal Poly’s. I majored in Engineering, and I am still kicking myself for not at least applying to Cal Poly SLO. Bottom line, don’t self-select yourself out of applying to a school you’re interested in.

I don’t know my exact GPA with my junior year calculated. At the end of my sophomore year I had a weighted 4.00 and unweighted 3.92. I did get straight A’s throughout my junior but I don’t know how much that affected my GPA.

I’m not sure of I’m calculating my CSU GPA correctly but I think I have a 4.4. And my sat would be 1220/1600.

My original goal school was ucsd but my sat and extreme lack of ecs bring me down. I actually would prefer to get into sdsu but I’m unsure if I would get accepted…

Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, and SDSU.

I think you might have a chance at UC Davis which is good for sciences, as mentioned. Many kids who get into Cal Poly SLO also get into Davis or UCSB?
