I just finished out my first year of high school pretty well. I got straight As in all my classes, and a 5 on AP Psychology, which I self studied. I did the self study this year as a sort of trial run for self-studying. I plan to self-study many more. These were my classes this year (9th)

English 9 HN
Algebra II HN
Biology HN
World History 1 HN
Advanced Guitar Ensemble
Latin II
PE/Health
AP Psychology (self)

These are my classes for next year (10th)

English 10 HN
Pre-Calc HN
Chemistry HN
AP World History
AP Latin
Advanced Guitar Ensemble
PE/Health/Drivers Ed

What APs do you think would be reasonable to self-study in concurrence with this schedule? I'm not just doing this from a college standpoint, I also enjoy teaching myself stuff. So please include in your recommendations weather-or-not you liked the course.

Your help is appreciated, as well as any other advice you might give.

Do AP Euro as you’ll learn the baseline in AP Wrld, I would not recommend that take on AP Chem just because it’s one of the hardest classes. Also, AP Human Geo as it seen as a “doable” self.

I’ve heard from several math and science teachers that the AP Chem test is more difficult than the AP Calc BC test. I’d say that I agree, having taken both, but I have two friends who disagree.

AP Gov was ridiculously easy this year, but that may have just been a fluke. I got a 5 on it by reading Barrons the weekend before.

eh, I think the only real overlap with Gov and USH is a couple key court cases like Plessy v. Ferguson.

I don’t think that there’s any real advantage to taking them together - it just means you have to memorize every single little detail about the government as well as all the details about USH in the same week which I think makes your life harder, not easier, especially if you have other tests that week.

I hear stats is easy but I haven’t taken it myself so I wouldn’t know.

So do you think that it would be a good idea to self-study just gov and stat? Do you think that I could fit any others in? What other ones would you pose as alternatives?

Both economics tests are easy if you give yourself time to self them. I did them the night before the tests after lacrosse playoffs (9PM->4AM+5hour Energy) and got 4’s on both but feel I easily could have 5’ed if I had taken the time to really absorb the material.

Human Geo is a joke. It’s painfully easy to 5 with a few days(hours) of reading the barrons book.

As someone who is a serious History person and has 5’ed to History tests (USGOV/APUSH) and is taking Euro his senior year, I would NOT recommend selfing Euro while you Self World. I pondered the idea of Selfing World while I was taking APUSH and it’s just a TON of material to memorize.

If you really want to self a History type AP, do CompGov or USGov. They are much MUCH less fact intensive memorizing type classes and require more of a conceptual understanding (plus a few specific court cases/incidences for UsGov). You will thank yourself come May if you don’t Self Euro.

I think doing what you’re saying is kind of overkill. It would look better to self-study two and do well than to self-study three and do mediocrely. Personally, I would do Stats and Euro, but make sure that Euro overlaps a lot with World. If not, do Econ.

And also, if your school works like mine and does not offer AP English Language, you could take that. I would recommend taking that your junior year, though. I do consider myself a good writer, however the extent of my studying was taking the practice test on Sparknotes the night before. It said my diagnostic score was a 5, so I just said screw it and I took the test. I ended up with a 5. As long as you are a good writer and reader, I say go for it! And if you prep, you’re almost guaranteed a good score. Just so you have comparison, when you get your SAT scores that will be a good gauge. I had a 770 in CR and a 760 in W, so I was pretty confident I could do well.
