I'll probably get a scholarship too since my SAT was 2050 and GPA was 3.67. What do you guys think about this college? I really am undecided, I want to go into medicine.

My sister just recently applied to over 15 dental schools after getting a 3.3 at SUNY Geneseo and she got rejected to all of them. My mom is now pushing me to go to an "easier" school so I can get a higher GPA and maybe will have a higher chance, even though it is Hofstra. Really need help here, my future is in your hands.

I just stumbled upon your post and figured I’d give you my opinion since my son is a senior and I’ve been evaluating schools for him. I also got info from Hofstra and thought that it was just too low a school for him - and given your stats I would feel the same way about you. If money is a concern and you live in NY, I would consider Stony Brook for pre-med - they have one of the best teaching hospitals in the country. There are some better private schools that he has gotten large scholarships from (Miami, Tulane) but it is too late for you to apply.

Bro, i got into Syracuse, Fordham, Northeastern, GWU and 3 SUNYs with a 2030 SAT and 2.95 UW gpa(my junior year shot up ALOT from a 79 average to a 96) and i think i’m about to go for Hofstra! i got into Honors too and going pre-med . Hofstra would be much more laid back as in being able to do good in school and yet party as well. My sis did REALLY good in HS but when she went to Fordham, she graduated with a 3.25, which barely got her into any good Grad Schools.

When you’re a doctor, it doesnt matter what Undergrad school you go to. It matters what Medical school and Residency you participate in! STAY AWAY FROM MAJORING IN SCIENCE! it will be the biggest mistake of your life! I’m double majoring in Comparative Literature/Psychology with minors in Biology and Chemistry.

Anyways, back to Hofstra. Go here! The Honors program is pretty unique and the Honors Seminars look interesting as well. Sure you’re going to have some kids who don’t care about school, but, you’re not going to be the only one! 23% of the kids who were part of the freshman class had GPA’s 3.75+ unweighted. 35% top tenth of the class! Just trust me!

Thanks for the responses, I got a 14k scholarship, and with my other scholarships, tuition becomes virtually free for me. I still am really unsure about Hofstra though, could I get anymore opinions? I hear they’re opening a medical school on campus by 2012, so there’s a chance I could get into that.

Money counts, DwMarn92, especially if you are going to Med school! And maybe with Hofstra’s new Med school opening it is the school for you. You applied so you must have considered it something of a fit. I would suggest that you set up an overnight with the Honors College and sit in on the classes. The stats for the Honors College are impressive and those students will be your peers. Good luck with your decision! :)
