got off the phone with UCSD

Sooo... as you may have seen me around here, my dream school was UCSD.

I just got off the phone with an UCSD admissions officer to ask why I was rejected. The first thing she said was my GPA was too low (3.78) which automatically put me at a disadvantage. She told me that was not high enough to be competitive (at least 4.0UC GPA). She then proceeded to tell my my test scores were alright, in the admitted average. Just my GPA killed me

She told me I got 6920 when the cutoff for admission was 7483.

Oh well, this is how life goes, just thought I should share.

aww, i'm sorry awakendream. it's ok though because you can be successful anywhere you go. and you can have fun anywhere you go as long as you make it fun and not think "what ifs". You'll be fine.

Ouch! Appeal it man, there's no way their GPA cut-off is 4.0!

Seriously, someone's lying. I was admitted and I had a 3.6something UW, probably around a 3.8 UC.

well the GPA isn't the only thing, but since I didn't have extraordinary SAT's and extraordinary EC's and hardships, the GPA was the thing that killed me according to her.

if you have the stellar EC's or hardships, it will help outweigh low GPA

The applicants with lower GPA's have to have higher test scores to compensate.

"if you have the stellar EC's or hardships, it will help outweigh low GPA"

What would be considered stellar ECs?

<a href="http://henry.sandi.net/college/application/ucsd_application_scoring.htm%5B/url%5D">http://henry.sandi.net/college/application/ucsd_application_scoring.htm</a></p>

e/c's that would fulfill points there, keeping in mind the new cutoff of 7483

Examine the chart and see what you think should have been added to your score that wasn't. If you can come up with valid things (and a case to make your point) that will push you over the cut-off, appeal. If you can't, you may as well move on.

Those saying to appeal are totally off base. This is not a quantatitive system where you are owed admission and it's time for everyone to get that.

You heard it from the horses mouth. They look at a full picture. Sometimes it doesn't seem right or fair. They get to do it their way.

Time for everyone to make peace with the schools they got ineo. There's always grad school for the dream school. Good luck awakendream, this will seem like a small blip in a year.

i called UCSD too today and according to them i have a GPA of 3.23 and i have 6310/7483....i only have two ECs and i wonder why your point was only 600 higher than mine? and i didnt include my family income so i missed 150 pts there and community service which is another 300 pts. So you arent far off of me.

homiebo

WOW they were strict w/ the cut off. Now do they use the cut off as a guide or what if you to get past the cut off do you just not make it into UCSD?

anyone know the cut off for LA or Cal?

there is no cut off for la and cal

cal has no rubric: <a href="http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/fallapp.asp?id=56&navid=N%5B/url%5D">http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/fallapp.asp?id=56&navid=N</a>
uc berkeley freshman selection process

its all subjective

UClippers as long as you go over the cut, you are automatically in.. the cut off was 7483

homiebo

*** for engineering? or into UCSD generally?

7483 for ucsd generally

wow w.t.f. reeally wow its kinda hard
