Got Q's for UCI, Ask Them

If you have questions regarding UC's or UCI, which i attend, or just questions about college and college life in general, just ask them, because someone always has some sort of answer, so that you are better informed.

Can you exempt a breadth requirement? If so, how?

urkulmum:

There are certain breadth requirements, which you can be exempt out of by doing AP classes. For example, if you take three years of another language you pass out of the foreign language breadth. But you have to check the requirements for each breadth at this site, http://www.editor.uci.edu/catalogue/intro/intro.13.htm .

Depending on your major as well, you can pass out of certain classes. IF you have any more Q's let me know

what IS a breadth requirement?

Is UCI bike-friendly like Davis? I dont want to be walking all the time xD

Err, I think this thread is to point out that you should call and ask UCI themselves if you have questions about UCI.

if we weren't invite to join the honors program, can we apply to be in it after 1st semester? and if so, what's the minimum gpa required?

Yes you can apply for it, i dont know the min gpa.

how good is the bizecon/econ major at uci?..dont know whether to choose uci or ucsd

No, jas0n this is thread for people to ask, although calling is most helpful :)

darkmafiaguy,
breadth req, are classes in categories that everyone has to take in order to graduate regardless of their majors.

chocolateturtle:
UCI is semi bike friendly, you have to know the bike routes around the campus, all the service routes, and the back end ways to get around. I would recommend a mountain bike with shocks and gears, since UCI has a lot of hills.
Although, I think Davis, is a lot more bike friendly than UCI will ever be

confused_junior:
The business/econ major is quite popular at uci. The Post Grad program is one of the best, and so the under grad program is simulated to run with the same efficiency. My suite mate and one of my friends both are business econ majors, and they seems to have loads more time to sleep and WoW than anyone else that i know. They wake up at noon and go to bed at midnight. It isnt bad at all

how harsh is UCI on rescinding for a minor grade slip up? for example a "D" in language arts.

gohansdemise:

If you get such a grade, as in a D in any class, in order to advance to the next class in a series for example, you may need a C- or above, so you wont be able to. You can retake up to 16 units in which you have gotten a C- or below for a better grade, and the new grade will replace the old one. After the 16 units, you are allowed to retake the class, but the new grade will just be averaged with the old one.

Laugh if you want, but i have decided to withdraw from CHP. I am an incoming freshman, and i would really appreciate if somebody could tell me about the process of withdrawal. Can i do it online, and before orientation?

why dont you just call them.

does uci have a major called "architecture and related services" for undergraduates?
cuz i saw that on collegeboard n other websites
but i couldnt find it on uci website

Is it true that if I go to Irvine, I will probably work in SoCal after graduation? Can I still find jobs and such up north or would they prefer UCD students over me?

Mysticorion: i dont see any reason why they would prefer a UCD grad to a UCI grad if the UCI grad is more qualified in terms of actual experience/skill.

I'm not sure, it's just something I heard at school. Hopefully it's not true =(

of all the residence halls in mesa court, which one would best suit a bio major? also, which one is the most social?

Also, in the Campus Connection Halls, are you required to take certain courses in order to be in there? thanks a lot

rachellie091:

the last i checked i dont think that uci has any such program, but it may be a minor. however i am really skeptical
