Government question

I took a government class(Govt 2305) at Austin Community College(dual credit) last year, but UT requires 6 hours of government coursework. So now am I supposed to take Gov 310L or Gov 312L?

Thanks!

They’ll honor your credit, but are you planning on majoring in govenment? Because if you are it might be best if you take the class and forgo the credit at UT and take it from them, at least that’s what they told me…(thats what I did)

Are you allowed to use AP credit combined with the TX Government placement test for GOV 310L and then take another government at ACC? Or do you have to take all 6 hours at the same institution?

You don’t have to take them at the same place.

My government advisor said it doesn’t matter. Just make sure you get those six credits. I got AP credit for the first, took the second one this summer at UT.

It’s not like calculus where if you take the first half at comm college you are screwing yourself over if you take the second half at UT. The second part of government doesn’t really relate to the first (at least mine didnt) because the profs choose what they want the class to be about.

No I am majoring in Electrical Engineering.
So is Govt 2305 same as Gov 310L then?

Thanks again!

more than likely, they’ll give you that credit, thats what they offered me so yea, they will.

ok thanks for the help again!
Btw, since you already took the course, are there any profs you would suggest?

nah, i can’t suggest any cause i’m frosh man, sorry, i just happened to pay attention at my meeting with my Advisor, but i know a guy that is a year ahead of me he told me to defiantly take a class from Karch, i hope he’s right, thats who i have this fall…

Oh it’s alright, I thought you were a sophomore :D. I actually don’t think I will have any choice since most of the courses are already closed.

Good luck with your teacher though! :)

Just an FYI, you are NOT allowed to “forgo credit” for any class you took at an actual college. You may for AP courses, but if it is a college course you are REQUIRED to report it to UT. You will get a grade of CR, and it won’t affect your UT GPA, though it will affect your GPA for grad school admissions.

well, my advisor told me it was in my best interest to forgo my government credit, but then again, its my major so that may have been the exception, so unless they did something that shouldn’t have happened I know for a fact that I was able to do exactly that…
