I'm currently a freshman who is looking at transferring for next fall. I was looking at either University of Illinois or Northwestern University. What is the gpa needed to get into these schools as a sophomore transfer? If it helps I'm currently at the University of Maryland and looking to apply into general LAS college at either of these schools.

A 4.0 isn't a guarantee, and a 3.0 isn't a death sentence. There are so many other factors... read the sticky at the top of the transfer thread...

3.0 is most likely a death sentence for northwestern

plan on getting a 3.7+ to be a competitive applicant to northwestern, but as wretch said gpa is only one factor (albeit a big one) in admissions

I found this site abou Illinois,do you think that it's accurate?
U of I Admissions: Junior Transfer Grade Point Average (GPA) Guidelines

While it's important to get as high a college gpa as possible, as a soph transfer, your HS record and test scores will be given more weight than your one qt/sem of college.

Regarding the UI website, since the gpa's are listed by the college itself, based on their admission statistics, they're going to be more accurate than anything anyone here can provide.

ok, I got deferred at Illinois last year and then denied later on. I thought I had a pretty good chance of getting in. I'm probably going to end this semester with around a 3.2 GPA and the major I want to transfer in on the illinois site says I only need a 2.5...

UI urbana-champaign or UI chicago? UIC is a easier to get in to than Urbana-champaign.

The web link the OP gave is for UIUC.

At the three universities of Illinois, there is a strict hierarchy for transfer preference.
first priority goes to students already at that campus
2nd students at other UI campuses
3rd Illinois residents
4th OOS
