gpa question

i've been reading the threads and i still don't get what the "uc gpa" is. is it just your gpa from 10th and 11th grade? how do u calculate it? this is probably a stupid question but w/e lol

its your gpa from sophomore through junior year (including summer school before sophomore year and after junior year) in all academic "A-G" classes. Your school may have a list ready for you to check which classes are A-G, or you can check online somewhere by typing in your school and a list will come up. For any UC-approved honors, AP, IB, or Community College classes, you get an extra point (A=5, B=4, C=3, D/F gets no extra weight), and you can get up to 8 weights (8 extra points) on your gpa before they stop weighting classes. The easiest way to do it is to first ignore weights, just giving A=4, B=3 and so on and adding all your grades. Then, when you get your total unweighted, add the number of weighted points you would get. Example:

Sophomore/Junior Year Classes

English II Honors (not UC approved honors) A/A
Bio CP B/A
Algebra II A/A
World History AP A/B
PE A/A

English III AP A/A
US History CP B/A
Chem Honors B/B

4+4+3+4+4+4+4+3+4+4+3+4+3+3+6= 57/14 = 4.07

Note that I did not include PE in the calculation because it is not an A-G course. Also, even though there are 8 semesters of honors/ap classes, i only added 6 points because if English II Honors were not UC approved as an honors course, you dont get the weight even if your school calls it honors.

thanks. so they don't even look at your freshman grades? do they consider 9th drage gpa in the admissions?

Yes, they don't look at your freshman year grades.
