Grade Transfer Policy

Im sure this has been asked 1000 times, but I searched with little to no luck...

Short story:

Got a bad grade in chem @ 4 yr university 1st semester.
I can retake it here next semester, but the class is incredible difficult and I would be hard pressed to better my grade even by one letter.

This leads me to my question: If i were to retake the course over the summer at my local CC, how would my GPA be affected (assuming I did well in it)?

My school (as does most other universities I assume) does not accept "transfer grade" but rather just the transfer credit.
What would happen to the first grade I received from taking that class at my 4 yr university?

(Hypothetical)
Would the original D change to an A?
Would the original D remain, with an A added alongside of it?
Would the original D completely disappear and "CR" would replace it as "credit" only?

TIA!!

I don’t know about your school but in most of our schools, the grade and grade points both transfer. If you improve on the grade, the better grade transfers because you can’t get credit for the same class twice. You will have to ask your present school if the lower grade will even show up on your transcript if you improve upon it. But it should not be calculated in your GPA. To know for sure, ask your school how it is handled.
