It may just be on CC, but it seems like everyone applying to top schools has all A+, and a 4.0 GPA. My freshman year GPA was a 4.2-4.3 out of 4.5, and right now my grades are . . .

First Quarter
Honors Chemistry A
English A
AP Euro A-
Honors Algebra II A+
Spanish III A+

Second Quarter
Honors Chemistry A
English A
AP Euro A+
Honors Algebra II A
Spanish III A+

Is this still OK? I would say that overall my second quarter grades are better than the first, because there are no A- and same number of A+. Is that right?

I’m going to continue my policy of refusing to justify questions along the lines of “My A doesn’t have a + after it, am I still going to be able to get into a good college”? If you’re anal enough to worry about the difference there, nothing I say is going to affect much anyway.

Then you really don’t need to worry. The kind of school where an A- is 3.5 is the kind of school that makes colleges go “wow” when they see it on your application.
