Uprooted by internal unrest and popular anger, the long-time Fatah party is now out of the political picture.Hamas is now in control of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The militant group and now so-called "political party" refuses to recognize Israel's right to exist as an independent Jewish state and condemn the innocent killing of Israeli civilians.

What are your views on Hamas' upset victory over the Fatah party in the Palestinian elections. Do you think that the Mideast process is now headed towards certain doom and that the turmoil in the Arab nations is about to become unhinged and spiral out into total war??? Also, what do you think are the appropriate actions that the US should take to ensure stability in thsi volatile region of the world?

The Hamas victory shows that Palestinian people support the destruction of Israel and the killing of any Israelies including small children. Now that the world knows the true feelilngs of the Palestinians, we don't have to pretend that they are simply poorly led (e.g. Arafat) and if only given a chance, the true wishes for peace would prevail. Hopefully, American and other civilized countries will stop sending money to the terrorist nation of Palestine. Hopefully, the world will begin to consider Palestine as a soverign nation and if it attackes another nation such as Israel, Israel will respond the way American would respond if attacked by another country.

haha, only America, England, and Israel are civilized, while the rest of the world are barbarians and slaves. Shheesh, somebody shut this kid up!

Business_Spanks, I'm guessing that you're a Muslim that supports the Palestinians and reviles Israel? I'm going to be on razorsharp's side. The victory of Hamas is a bad development indeed, what with also Iran and its nuclear weapon's program and Sharons incapcitation, Israel has a lot of worry about right now, poor Israel. Things have just gotten worse in the mideast and it looks like the peace process is dead yet again.

Israel has nothing to worry about. Like every political organization in the history of the world, Hamas too will become mired on the game of politics and fail to accomplish much of anything.

"Like every political organization in the history of the world, Hamas too will become mired on the game of politics and fail to accomplish much of anything."

Iran isn't going to do anything to Israel. They're going to have a conference on the Holocaust and all the western countries got scarred for some reason. Like there is something to hide?

People voted and Hamas one, DEMOCRACY at work!

"Like every political organization in the history of the world, Hamas too will become mired on the game of politics and fail to accomplish much of anything."

You spelled "won" wrong Tpeck, better work on your spelling?
Well, I'm going to say that Israel has a lot of crap on its hands and I feel sorry for it, thats it. I do think Hamas won fair and square and that democracy was at work but that doesn't make me happy with the election outcome.

No, the Hamas victory shows that fatah is a dumb political party. Fatah ran multiple candidates in single member districts while Hamas ran one man in each district. Thats how Hamas won this election. How is palastine a soveirgn nation with no specific borders? Ever since Hamas found out that they have gained power they have moderated their views. They may even form a coalition with fatah. I think your remarks are rather ignorant.

According to the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion:

80% of Palestinian Arabs say that even if Israel surrenders all of Judea, Samaria, Gaza, and eastern Jerusalem, the Palestinian Arabs should still insist on the "right of return" --which would mean flooding Israel with millions of Arab "refugees" and thereby putting an end to Israel as a Jewish state.

59% of Palestinian Arabs believe that Hamas and Islamic jihad should continue their violence against Israel, even if Israel surrenders all of Judea, Samaria, Gaza, and eastern Jerusalem.

96% of Israeli Jews say that the 9/11 attackers were terrorists, but only 37% of Palestinian Arabs consider them terrorists. In addition, 26% of Palestinian Arabs believe that Israelis planned the 9/11 attacks.

61% of Israel Arabs, and 42% of Palestinian Arabs, say they support the terrorists who are attacking Americans in Iraq. Zero percent of Israeli Jews support the attacks.

Most Muslims are unequivocally Anti-Zionist and Anti-Israel.

You are indeed an idiot. Those stats involve Palestinian Arabs, not MUSLIMS! Try to learn the difference, next time.

Islam is a massive religion, and it will overtake Christianity in a couple of years. Making such a generalization is foolish on your part. It is biggots like you that make it hard to eliminate hatred and start peace.

these types of threads are the reasons why there are so many negative stereotypes for jews. Those stereotypes are wrong but your ignorance perpetuates them. If I was a palestinian I would be ****ed too if one day the UN kicked me off of my land and gave it to foreigners.

Fatah has failed to help Palestine and the reason they were overthrown is because of the decades of political and economical instability they have brought to their people. Now, that a terrorist group is in power in Palestine, the US can now without doubt place economic sanctions on Palestien and cut off all aid to the area. Even if Hamas never caves in to the international community's demands that the group recognize Israel's right to exist and disband its militant wing, then the Palestinian people will take it upon themselves to oust Hamas from power or make it very difficult for the radical Muslim group to not agree with the obligations that the civilized world has set forth before it order to secure the existence of a free Palestinian state.

Hamas isnt ready to lead, they were very surprised to actually win that election. My gut feeling is that their platform will be a lot more moderate.
