Hello College Confidential!
I came back from my USC Trustee Scholarship interview not too long ago, and I came out of the interview room with mixed feelings.
I know there were things I shouldn't have said, and I'm afraid that I messed up my chances for a full-ride to USC :(

The strange thing is, two days ago, I received a handwritten postcard from USC that went something like this:

"Dear Sara
It was wonderful getting to meet with your this morning. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us. It was great hearing about your many interests in East Asian cultures. We hope to see you back on campus in the fall! Fight on!"

Is this a mean joke that they're trying to play, getting my hopes up only to be let down?! :(
Do you think everyone recevied a handwritten postcard?!
Why did they have to do this?!?!
I don't know what to think anymore :(

I would not know what to think either. It sounds like the interviewer liked you. It sure does not sound like a bad sign. I do not know if you should expect a full ride, but you should expect something pretty good!

Yes, in my experience all Trustee/Presidential candidates who interview in CLAS receive handwritten notes afterwards - it is a very nice touch. Don’t think that is bad news, though - out of the over 20,000 applications received by the scholarship deadline (35,000+ overall), you are one of only about 800 selected to interview for the Trustee/Presidential scholarships, and USC is VERY interested in having all of you wonderfully qualified candidates attend so they are being extra nice to each of you.

The USC Trustee Scholarship is a *full-tuition *scholarship, not a *full-ride *scholarship. Room, board, books, transportation and expenses are not covered.

I’m sorry and I’m not trying to be a bubble-burster, but after returning from my Explore USC thing I received a handwritten postcard shortly thereafter. Even though it would be nice if i was wrong, I strongly doubt this shows any preference over being selected. This is just a continuation of them hoping to have a high yield of top applicants.

hahaha no, definitely not ominous! But I wish you the best of luck! We’ll find out the results soon enough, but this waiting for everything is just horrid. My mom is the opposite; she thinks every postcard means I’m accepted and I have to slowly break the news to her that it’s just another piece of mail. hahah.

oh good, good! haha my mom is such a pessimist, hehe.
same to you!!!
just out of curiousity, which session did you attend?
i might’ve been in your group!

SAME. it’s basically if i get the full-tuition, i’m 100% set on being a trojan!
HAHAHA at least your mom is positive!
my mom’s all: “OH don’t get your hopes up. it’s probably a bad thing!”

I doubt we were at the same one… mine was a day for Presidential people, so I assume yours was for Trustee people. Mine was earlier this week. But it would be cool to think that we could have been the same place at the same time!

And when it comes to deciding where to attend, a nice big scholarship and beautiful weather makes USC seem a lotttt more appealing… haha. We shall see what happens.
