Is it best to hang posters in your dorm with something like sticky tack?

This may not apply to your school, but at my D’s college, they are only able to use blue electrical tape (not black, mind you, but blue), because apparently it’s the only adhesive that is completely removable.

Indeed, Cornell is all about the blue tape. I, however, found blue tape to be both ineffective and unsightly, so I went ahead and used sticky tack…never presented a problem for me, and I don’t think my RA ever noticed, let alone cared.

Thanks! Does the blue tape thing apply to all dorms, including Balch?

3M makes these poster-hanging things much like their adhesive hook that don’t leave a mark on the walls. they’re pretty good, if a bit pricey - but hey, the “unsightlyness” of blue tape is really THAT important to you, you won’t mind shelling out a couple of extra dollars, right?

What about painters tape?

Thanks for the tip, cc102! lol, I don’t really care what kind of tape I use…as long as it’s effective and okay by Cornell’s standards.

@ zfanatic - painters tape is blue tape. or at least that’s what i think/used…

@ countryangel - aha, i was just poking fun at the kid who said that blue tape was “unsightly” - i never thought that blue tape was in the way, especially if you just roll it up and stick it behind the posters! (if no one can see it, how can it be unsightly?) anyway, even if you don’t use the specific poster ones made by 3M, i do have to say that the rest of the line - ESPECIALLY the hooks will come in very helpful. i was able to put up a full-length mirror on the back of my closet door (and it was really helpful because i had a pretty large walk-in closet, which meant i could change in there if there were people chilling in my room). also, having random hooks around the room - or even the option of having those hooks - is very useful when it comes to organizing.

that’s what I thought cc102, someone just said blue electrical tape. Was like “huh?”

Maybe it was just me, but whenever I rolled up blue tape and simply stuck it behind a poster, half the time said poster would fall down…sometimes on top of me. Same thing when I put the tape on top of the corners of the poster instead of underneath. shrugs To each his own, I guess. I’ll stick with my sticky tack.

Hey AlexKB, just in case I decide to go with sticky tack…where can I find some? I searched the sites for stores like Target and Office Max, and nothing came up.

Sorry, can’t help ya there…I always just borrowed it from my roommate, haha. Perhaps someone else can share some insight regarding the matter? Again, apologies!

Haha no problem xD

just in case anyone is interested. I was doing some searching around for the 3m wall stuff and came across this site.

[Find Adhesive Wall Hangers At Rons Home And Hardware](http://www.ronshomeandhardware.com/Adhesive-Wall-Hangers-s/1269.htm)

Their prices seem pretty darn good. Maybe some other places that have better prices but they sure have a good selection.

Speaking of selection. what type of 3m things will my daughter most likely need for her room? I have never used these things before, but assume they must be pretty good because it seems like everyone recommends them and most colleges list them as the “approved” way to hang things on walls.

She will be staying in Balch if that makes a difference on what she might need.

I would leave this up to her, but that would mean waiting until the very last second and going from store to store to find what she needs and paying the very highest price. I on the other hand would rather be prepared, shop the internet have them delivered to my door for the lowest possible price. Even if it means spending the savings on a few extras. That should make for happy hallmates :-)
