I have a question about Harvard's transfer waiting list. The letter I received said that most of the decisions would be made by July -- it's the 27th now and I still have not received any word.

The transfer admissions office seems to never pick up their phone when I call them during their summer hours, which is until 1pm eastern time. I have left them two messages so far and they haven't responded to either.

Do you know if this is unusual or not? Both of you seem to know a lot about Harvard, so I was wondering if you have any information about how late into the summer has someone been taken off the waiting list or know people that were taken off of it.

For a number of reasons, the process seems to have been delayed a bit this year.

Before transfers are finalized they have to know how many beds are available. The yield rate was higher than anticipated, so the WL was squeezed. To find openings, they really have to calculate carefully who will be taking a year or semester abroad.

I finally got a hold of them this morning and they informed that the WL was currently full, but there is always a chance someone might change their mind at the last minute -- so they keep their WL list open.
