How difficult? I got in EA but regretfully did not apply to SOM. I know for sure thats what I want now.
Wondering how hard the transfer might be.

An Intra-University Transfer (IUT) into SOM is very competitive, but can definitely be done. To give you an idea of the successful applicants for an IUT to SOM, most applicants had earned at least 57 credits and had a 3.3 GPA or higher. This means that generally juniors or higher are accepted into the program. Your class standing (i.e. junior) DOES count any advanced credits that you bring with you into Binghamton, such as AP, IB, SUNY, SUPA, or any other dual-enrollment, transfer, or advanced credit programs, so you don’t necessarily have to wait a full two years before having a good shot at a transfer.

In the meantime, you are highly recommended to take certain classes that are required for SOM students that are found in Harpur. This includes introductory courses in macro and micro economics, calculus, statistics, two writing courses, three non-introductory liberal arts courses, and general education requirements.

You can find a lot more information about an IUT into SOM at the following pages:

There are other options as well for Harpur students interested in Business. SOM offers a Management Adjunct option, which you can find information about at the last link above. This is essentially a minor in management. Harpur or Watson students can also earn a 5-year BA/BS and MBA in any of their majors.

If you have any other questions, let me know!

Sincerely,
Rob Clark

Thank you for the info. Very helpful. I could kick myself for not applying to SOM in the first place.
Sounds like I could spend my time at Bing worrying about the transfer though. Ugh.

Can Harpur students take classes available in SOM? Say, advertising or management courses?

Don’t forget about the 5 year BA, MBA program at Binghamton too.

328xi07: Harpur students can petition to take SOM classes. The chances of getting accepted to do so varies based on the reason you need to take the classes. For instance, I’m in Harpur as an Actuarial Sciences major. To be an actuary, you need to take certain classes to fulfill educational requirements that are called VEE requirements. One of these requirements involves two finance classes - classes that are in SOM. Actuarial science majors can petition in to such courses with ease due to the reasoning behind needing to take the course. It would be less likely for, say, a Sociology major to successfully petition into a finance course, though. You can see more about our options for more comprehensive business programs in my earlier response to this thread relating to IUTs, the Management Adjunct, and the 5-year MBA options.

Ok thank you!
