I think that is waste of time to do suspects…It doesn’t matter…Who will get in any college or university depends on admission decisions not from each one of us…So chill out and do your best;)

^ True that. Which is also why I think chance threads are a complete waste of time… the people telling you you’ve got a “great shot” aren’t the adcoms themselves. I’ve seen plenty of cases of people who’ve been denied at schools CC’ers told them they would easily get in, and vice versa.

Then again, there are several cases where it’s pretty obvious that the person in question won’t get in :P

@kameronsmith: Are you a 2015er?? Lol, for some reason I always thought you were an '14er :)!

@xrCalico23: Well, I was a 2015er. However, I guess I’m now a 2016er, since I got into UWC for next year.

^lol. UWC??

United world colleges.

Yeah, helen. We should chill out… Sorry for letting my cholerist side out.
Which UWC do you go?

Armand Hammar (USA)

^ Wow. Pretty exciting stuff! I used to live in Singapore, and I had quite a few friends from the UWC there. :D

Hope you have a great next couple of years :)

to everyone: let’s imitate this emoticons :)

It keeps you moving.

I guess it’s a year too early, but here’s something by Robert Frost:
In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.

Personally, I am extremely passionate about economics, sciences and mathematics but I love to play sports and have fun :D

Hey fledgling I currently live in Singapore! Did you go to UWC there? I go to OFS, by the way what are you guys thinking about college essays? Sorry I’m not a 2015 hopeful (I’m a 2016 hopeful) but this thread seems very interesting, some people have great chances in this thread

^ I doubt any of us are recruited athletes or potential developmental admits so our chances are far from great.

^ Hi there! Nice to see I still have Singaporean connections. I didn’t go to UWC; however I did attend its rival school, in terms of both student body size and athletics. It was also another international school… you’ve most likely heard of it. Not posting the name here to protect my privacy :P

This. My father told me yesterday that he would love if I went to a school in Sing. He recommended UWC (since it’s great, amazing, yadayadayada, and my cousin’s an alumnus) and Nanyang Girl School (for the same reason and my mum’s an alumnus). I rejected. I’m terrified at its optional Chinese lesson. :D

^ That’s a shame. Chinese is such an interesting and funny language (at least in my opinion) :D

PS - do you mean ‘required’? Last time I checked, Nanyang required all its students (or “pupils” :P) to take Chinese, just like most other Singaporean schools.

Really? I thought there are 2-3 optional languages for the ‘pupils’ to choose: Chinese, Malay, and whatsthelastone.

Chinese IS interesting, but really, sometimes I hope it’ll use alphabets instead. :)

Haha ok PM me as to which school you went to if you feel like, nice to hear from someone who has lived in Singapore (Btw, I’m taking wild guesses here, SAS or OFS?)

I am worry about something. The major that I want to study is Mechanical Engineering. But I am worry due to the fact that I didn’t have enough activities in this field as extracurriculars. I have done enough in Astronomy and Astrophysics realm (National and International Olympiad, awards, projects etc). The only things that i have done and which are related with the field that I want to study are the articles that I writing and specifically in Aerospace Engineering(which is one of the reasons that I am going to apply in US universities) to national magazine…

Would be negative for me??Some people told me that I should apply in Physics Department and I dont want it.My dream job is, to be a rocket scientist…

And I dont want my question seems a picture of inconfidence or a try to show my extracurriculars. Not at all…I am just worried…

@ thecrimson: I’m PM’ing you now. :D

@ helen: I say just go ahead and pick whatever major you want. Believe it or not, there are PLENTY of MIT admits who’ve never participated in a single math or science competition, or even any science-related EC’s (Science Olympiad, Math Team, etc.)! Millancad is a good person to ask on this subject; I’m sure she’ll be able to explain it even better than I can. But the bottom line is that no, you do not necessarily need to have a ton of EC’s in the area of your intended major.
