Harvard 2015 Hopefuls

:) She was a racial minority and a first-generation student. So yes, other factors surely compensated.

^ To avoid the risk of yet another heated affirmative action debate, I’ll change the topic.

How many 2015ers plan on submitting the supplemental essay? And for those accepted to the Harvard Class of 2014, did you choose to submit?

Ι will submit a supplementai essay!!:)

Yes, I did. I enthusiastically took the opportunity to submit one, but it truly is optional.

i also submitted one. since yale requires one, and princeton basically requires one with an attached quote (if you write an essay that works with their prompt), then you can just attach the same essay to harvard. then all three apps are virtually the same. good stuff

i felt the need personally cuz my supplement was comical enough to balance out the serious topic of my commonapp essay

I’m first generation collegebound. That’s just about the hook I have. However, I personally despise hooks but I don’t really want to get into that.

I think my stats are decent but I still need to take the SAT and I’m taking two more subject tests.

Sometimes ivy league acceptances are unpredictable. They might like something in your essay or they might notice something else that they like.

All I can do is try my best and get the highest scores possible.

I’ll definitely try and send in a supplemental essay. I mean, they do need to have a pretty good picture of who you really are, so you might just as well give them as much information as possible (without overdoing it, of course). :)

What could be the subject of a supplemental essay?Because is optional can we right whatever we want???

^ Correct. The topic is completely up to you to choose. :)

None of the kids in my high school have been accepted to Harvard ever before or any of the seniors now, Im hoping to be the first into Harvard. May God help me. I’m really fearful of my grades and gpa and I’m a late bloomer-found out about honors and Ap’s later than the other geniuses, but I did challenge myself and my sophomore year was all honors with Honor Roll and High Honor Roll and this year is all AP’s and Honors as well. I hope to make up for my GPA and transcript by excelling in the SAT I, ACT, Ap’s and SAT II’s. I will also have amazing essays since I have experienced a lot and have soo much to write about it. I’m also President of Model Un in my school and have some other positions as well. In addition, Im a girl and a minority (African American). Well I’ll make a thread soon, for you guys to chance me, but anyways I hope I get in. I will be really sad if I don’t. :/

^ Don’t be too sad if you are actually eventually rejected. Harvard rejects many, many extremely qualified applicants each year. With a sub-7% acceptance rate, Harvard physically can’t take every academically successful student.

Τhank you fledgling!!:)

@ helen: You’re very welcome!

@ Jersey13: You have a very good point. I’m pretty much setting up myself for rejection. I’ve always wondered what Harvard’s rejection letter looks like :D

Oh no.
Sorry for venting, but yesterday I almost decided not to apply after going through the 2014 decision thread…
I come from a country that sends undergraduate students to HYP approximately to none every year. Many have never heard of the SAT test, let alone APs.
We do not have many competitions. Our ECs are limited, student aren’t supposed to have more than two ECs. No clubs are allowed, community service are really unavailable. The worst part: 2-week summer holiday! So the only thing to do is rest.
I’m devastated, to say the least.
Mm…sorry for grumbling guys. :)

^ you could explain that in your essay I guess.

Yeah. And the title will be ‘Venting’.
:stuck_out_tongue:
What topics will you, fellow Harvard applicants, write about?

@MonochromeAddict I totally understand you…But fortunetelly I did many things for EC’s but not in the realm that I want to study because my country doesn’t offer that opportunity…I worried like you because it can be negative for me…

I wish from my depth of my heart good luck,I wish you the best!!:D

Hopefully I will be recruited for Harvard Athletics
But if now, I am still applying. It is definitely my first choice, behind Princeton, Yale, Wellesley, Brown, UPenn, Williams, etc…

PM me!

Good point Jersey13. You can’t just look at someone’s numbers. So much more goes into an application.

I wish I can be recruited too. But, no, that’s impossible
@helen in particular and everyone: I wish you the best of luck. We gonna need that.
Anyway, which part of the application that you are most nervous about? For me, my ECs and essays.
