@silverturtle: Well, somehow I don’t. panicking

God, I’d love to hear your accent! Maybe like Canadian-Mandarin-Spanish-English, eh??
I love English with French accent, so amazing. All together, feeling jealous you are seriously lucky to be able to speak many languages…And have the accent. My English is influenced by Javanese, so my pronounciation is rather different.

If we are accepted, we should have a coffee sometimes. ;)

Haha, my accent is sort of like American English, tinged with a Chinese (Singaporean??) accent, with a slight hint of a Southern drawl (picked up from my mom, haha) and a couple of indications here and there that I also speak French and Spanish. My cousin said it was like I had my own personal accent… :P

I do enjoy being multilingual. It’s opened up so many doors for me; I’d even argue that I gain a new soul and a new voice with each language that I learn. Since Asians generally aren’t well-known for being good with languages, I can’t help but feel amused at native French and Spanish speakers’ reactions when I go up to them and start jabbering away at them in their own languages! :P

And yes, coffee sounds excellent. In fact, I feel like ordering a cappuccino right about now… :P

^And some people are way too pessimistic:p In any case, a Hopeful thread is only fun when people come and share their thoughts on a school, meet each other, etc., not when everyone’s complaining about their lives or asking for “chances” from others who do not know any better than the original poster, right?:)

This thread is full of pragmatism, not optimism. Everyone here realizes how little of a chance they have, but any chance is better than not applying at all.

@fledgling: feeling more jealous You have advantages from speaking those languages. French and Spanish guys are known to be cute! We both have personal accents. Mine’s not that bad, I can speak English quite fluently; it’s just I’m always embarrassed when speaking…

Anyway, 1 latte please!

I second Jersey13. We are not being blatantly optimistic. It feels good when you ‘talk’ to people with similar dreams to yours. :)

My school either happysunnyshine…They think that is very difficult to get in almost impossible but fortunetely it doesn’t discourage me.I am still optimistic:D

Oh stop:rolleyes:. It used to be my favorite school for a while - it has character, and probably the best economics department. And cool architecture.

With its name, that is completely understandable (similar to the University of Pennsylvania). If Chicago had been titled Rockefeller (the university’s benefactor), for instance, its overall public image would likely be much more pronounced.

@mifune: yeah, I see what you mean. I didn’t know about UChicago either before I started looking at colleges - but then again, I didn’t even know anything about Stanford or UPenn either.

@mifune: Yeah, it really is quite unfortunate. UChicago is, in my opinion, one of the best institutions in the country (at least top 10), but it’s highly underrated by applicants AND the general public.

Of course, as a mediocre applicant, I might like it that way. :)

Well, a Core Curriculum can actually be a good thing for some prospective applicants. For example, I’ve currently got my eyes set on Columbia as a slightly more realistic goal than Harvard (lol), and the Columbia Core is one of the reasons why I’m applying there. Then again, I’m a very humanities-oriented person, so I can see why some of the more sciency types might dislike the idea of the Core.
