Harvard SSP! Who got in!?

The Comp Sci course that I did was fairly intensive, we met 4 days a week 3 hr lecture, 1.5 hour section. It was completely worth it though.

The first few days you shop for classes. I would recommend going to your intended one the first day, then go to other Comp Sci classes the next few days and find where you want to go.

I highly recommend the Intensive Introduction to Computer Science Using Java, if you want to go from little to no programming experience, to being comfortable doing large programming projects in Java, and know lots about data structures, and algorithms.

I’m in grade 10 and applying for harvard ssp this year.I was wondring what the best essay topic would be ?? Is a history essay about japanese internment in north america okay ?? :S

Hi everyone! I’m applying for Harvard SSP this summer, and I was wondering if it was very difficult to get in. I have been reading a lot of information on it, and seems like it is. I turned in everything (except for the essay part). Are the essays worth more than the rest of the application? I really want to go to Harvard for my undergrad, so I am doing anything possible to get in. Do you think I would be able to get into the summer program?
Info: Junior Year, African American, 3.8 GPA, 1930 on SAT’s, 192 PSAT, lots of extracurriculars
I know my SAT’s are kind low, I’ve been trying to raise them.
I also had my interview for NSLI-Y (language study abroad) this weekend. Using the best case scenario, if I happened to get into both programs, which one would be better to go for?
Sorry for asking so many questions! Thanks!

I went last summer as a rising senior and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I took principles of Microeconomics and a journalism class. The biggest piece of advice I’d give anyone is to make sure you make the most of every day to explore Cambridge and the rest of the area. It goes by so fast and there is so much I wish I’d done. Also, make sure you all visit the museum of fine arts in boston…totally free except the subway fare with the student ID you all will receive.

You will also still be able to have a beach-y summer. You can take public transportation to nearby beaches for less than 10 dollars round trip.

@boijia The occupancy depends on each room. But I wouldn’t expect more than 3 additional roommates.

Hope everyone has a great summer! I am open to answering questions about what to expect.

@nagela, the SSP program isn’t hard to get in. The hardest part about it is paying for it. Little to no financial aid is offered for this program.

It’s not difficult to get in at all. The SSP exists just to make money for the school, and it’s part of the Extension School anyway, not the College.

That’s good. I really wanted to go. Thanks!

Hi,
I have applied for the harvard secondary school program for summer 2012, the course I want to apply for is this one
Intensive Introduction to Computer Science Using Java | Harvard Summer School
however this is a restricted course, I can petition for it and maybe they’ll let me in, and the course only has one prerequisite which is familiarity with precalculus, I am from pakistan actually, can someone explain what role does precalculus play in this course?
and also what part of precalculus must one be familiar with.

Thanks!
Jawad

I never knew about that? does it matter what school you go to or can anyone apply ?

I’m going to the Harvard SSP. When i go i’ll be taking the Neurobiology course and the Space Exploration and Astrobiology: Planets, Moons, Stars, and the Search for Life in the Cosmos class. Hope to see sother acceptee’s from CC there =D

I recently graduated from another private college, never applied to Harvard. I’m really bored though, so going there for summer school and hope to meet new people. I think it’s a good idea either way, really. To the person above me, I almost took that class, but I think I read a bad review of the professor or something and backed out.

Anyone need a roommate?? lol

I got in as well!!! Although I will be doing it in a distance option. I still think its worth my (dad’s :P) money

Hi! I was just wondering if it was a bad idea to take two classes on the same day (they’re 15 minutes apart). I really love both of them (Summer Seminar—On the Witness Stand: Scientific Evidence in the American Judicial System AND Modern Dance Technique and Choreography). However, they both run on Tuesday’s, and the Dance class is from 12:00- 3:00 and the Summer Seminar class is from 3:15- 6:15. I don’t want to be under-dressed for a class, and I don’t want to show up late for any class. Do you think I would have enough time to get from the Harvard Dance Center STUDIO 1 to the Science Center 469, and maybe clear up a little bit before class, or should I ditch one of the classes and go for something on a different day? Thank you so much!
