Has anyone applied to CSUs as a backup?

I know this forum is strictly for UC Transfers, but I was just curious if anyone has applied to any CSUs (CSU Northridge, CSU Long Beach etc.) as backup schools and if yes, have you heard back from any of them?

well i applied to sjsu and cal poly as back ups. i recently heard that i got into them! but seeing as that i have a tag with davis i probably will not be going to either of them.

In the case that I screw up so badly I’m rejected from both of my TAG schools, I’ll just go to UC Merced and live with it. lol

Yes I got into SDSU and Cal Maritime.

how are you guys figuring out which CSU’s you are getting accepted to? Did they send you a letter?

I applied to CSUF, CSULB and SDSU as back ups. So far I’ve gotten in to Fullerton. They sent me a letter in the mail dated January 26th I believe. It contained a congratulations letter and information about transfer orientation…

I wouldn’t bother with SJSU, I’ve heard horror stories about them. Too scary to deal with. Great profs (a lot of them teach at WVC), horrible administration.

I applied to SDSU as a back up because I didn’t realize how hard it is for people in other counties in CA, let alone out of state applicants. Now i’m hoping I at least get into SDSU :/

yeah i got into SJSU already. the admission packet looks nice in my opinion (especially the certificate!)

but whatever. the ones from the UCs should be much nicer :)

I got into CSUN, notice came in the mail a few months ago. I’m also able to see the acceptance message online.

Sfsu, sjsu, & sac for me

Responding to the student above who already learned they got into Cal Poly - if that is SLO, then I would head there before UC (unless you get into UCSD, UCLA or UCB) for most majors. Why? Just as if not more prestigious (harder to get into as a freshman than all the other UC’s), better hands on / technical / industry coordinated learning, and half the price tuition wise. You can wait to spend your bucks later on UC grad school - where again, a Cal Poly SLO degree will be stronger / as powerful as UC to get you in. Cal Poly SLO is now a west coast ivy and its in a killer location.

i got an email from CSULB saying im up for final admission process and they asked for my transcript. Does this mean I have a good chance of getting in? Or does it not really matter?

Looks like someone needs to whip out a dictionary for what an Ivy is. Public schools don’t become Ivies…not even make-believe Ivies, so notsureifsrs.

Also, you’re suppose to apply to places like UC Santa Cruz and UC Riverside as backups, not CSUs. Those are like backups of backups of backups, ya dig?

Going to a CSU would probably cut your life shorter and cause heart problems, woman problems, strep throat, etc…

Go UC or go home.

Feels good man

@SDBoysmom - i am pretty sure I’ll get into UCSD with my tag, and Davis approved my tag with them too. i feel like both of these schools are not only ranked higher, but in better located areas. i want to be by a major city for sure, because i think there would be tons more opportunities for internships. Alsooo, although i know its definitely an achievement to get into cal poly as a transfer because they’re so selective, i feel like that would benefit me better if i was like a business or science major or something. i’m a history major, lol. lastly, my parents would kill me if i went the csu route. sounds snobby and overall stupid i know, but they are paying for the majority of my education so i do need to take their input into consideration. they want me to go to the best UC i can get into, so i’m just going to do that. thanks for your input though, cal poly definitely is pretty cool

@jvesco - i would pick cal poly over ucr//ucsc any day of the week!

@redo

You’re right broski. Hell I’ll take it one step further and pronounce that I’d rather take up a minimum wage job than accept and admission offer from UCSC or UCR

And bro it’s not snobby for your parents to not want you to go in the CSU system. They simply know, as everyone does, that almost all CSUs will give you AIDS.

Be careful.

im a girl :[
and jvesco…dont lie this way…everyone knows that ucsb is the only university to give you aids.

I didnt know educational institutions can give people aids…

I’d take a Cal Poly over the other options too, but seeing as I have a 3.2 GPA why bother? I’d have a better chance of getting into Stanford XD

I want to go to grad school so I dont really care where I go as long as it is a UC. If that means UC Riverside then so be it. Pretty soon they will have a med shcool and their ranking will go up dramatically. This is what I tell myself so I dont freak out about UCSD and UCI :)
